Brittany Murphy Has Died

On Sunday 20^th of December 2009 one of my favourite actresses of all time Brittany Murphy died at the tender age of 32. Brittany is famous for her starring roles in Clueless, Sin City and 8 Mile. It is believed that she was committed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center near Beverly Hills with cardiac arrest although the hospital will not confirm the cause of death at this stage. Brittany's mother apparently found her unconscious in the shower and called 911 at 0800 local time. Two hours later the hospital confirmed Brittany Murphy's death.

Brittany Murphy lived in Los Angeles with her British Screenwriter husband Simon Monjack. Brittany's first big movie breakthrough came in 1995 when she starred along side Alicia Silverstone in the smash hit comedy Clueless. This high school drama about Beverly Hills school kids endeared her to the audience and the work flooded in from there. She appeared in many seasons of King of Hills providing her voice to the character. She also repeated this when appearing in Happy Feet with Elijah Wood. The news that Brittany Murphy died is so tragic.

More grittier roles came her way with 8 Mile when she starred alongside rap sensation Eminem. She also played a major role in Sin City which broadened her appeal. Brittany's was due to appear in Sylvester Stallone's next movie The Expendables.

As the cause of death has not been confirmed this has led to a lot of speculation to just how a 32 year old woman could suffer cardiac arrest. Much has been made of Brittany's weight loss in recent years with some media reports suggesting she may have been suffering from an eating disorder such anorexia or bulimia. If this is true then the chances of her having a cardiac arrest are much higher. Her spokeswoman has stated that she suffered from a heart murmur. This is unlikely to stop the speculation.

Messages of condolences have flooded in since news of her death broke. This includes a heart-warming message from her co-star in Just Married and former boyfriend Ashton Kutcher. Ashton tweeted "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine." "My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany's family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon." The news that Brittany Murphy is dead is absolutely tragic as I feel that she had a long career ahead of her. Much like Heath Ledger's untimely death we have been robbed of one our rising stars and will never know if Brittany would have fulfilled her potential as an actress.
