Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11 Running Shoe Compares to Nike Pegasus

By Edited May 8, 2014 1 0

is one of the more popular shoes made by the Brooks shoe company. Nike has a lot of true footwear designed for serious athletes, but they also have a lot of “fluff’ with shoes that appear to be for the hardcore runner, but are actually just for style and made to wear around town. The Nike Air Pegasus is a true shoe designed by Nike for the serious runner, but Brooks is more concerned with making the vast majority of their running shoes designed for functional and comfortable use by the serious runner. Brooks places an emphasis on design over style.

Brooks is often criticized by some runners who feel their shoes are ugly. The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11 is often noted for being an ugly shoe. The look of a shoe is often dependent on a person’s culture. One man may love a particular look and another man may hate it. Brooks actually tries to make their shoes look stylish, but there main concern is to create a running shoe that is actually designed to be worn and ran in by serious runners.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11 is designed specifically for people who are moderately over-pronaters who need a cushioned shoe with more support. Take a look at your current running shoes: if the inner side of your outsole is more worn than the outer edge, you may be an over-pronator. The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11 is specifically designed for this saturation. If you under-pronate then this is not the best running shoe for you.

The upper of the Adrenaline GTS 11 is made with mesh which allows for breathability and cooling of the feet. An all leather upper would cause your feet to sweat excessively. There is also synthetic leather used to lend additional support t the upper in key areas, but the vast majority of the upper is mesh. This is obviously not the best shoe for running in extremely wet conditions, but it is not designed for that.

The midsole of the Adrenaline GTS 11 is made with BioMoGo which allows the shoe to break down over time once you discard it into the landfill. This is one of many running shoes that are on the market that are bio-degradable.

The outsole is made with HPR Plus Rubber, which is basically a fancy name for carbon rubber. Carbon rubber is much more durable than blown rubber. If you need a shoe that has a durable outsole then the Adrenaline GTS 11 is an excellent choice. The forefoot does use blown rubber as it enhances cushioning and grip. If New Balance had used blown rubber on the heel then the sole would rapidly erode away to the cushioning rendering the shoe unsafe and un-useable. If Brooks had used carbon rubber for the entire sole it would have made the Adrenaline GTS 11 much more durable, but you would lose some of the traction ability of the sole in damp and wet conditions. The blown rubber in the forefoot helps keep you safer in moist conditions and then heavily impacted heel is made of a carbon rubber to help with durability issues. The mixture of various rubbers is common place, and the Adrenaline GTS 11 makes a great shoe because of how and where they strategically added blown rubber and carbon rubber.

If you are a mild to medium over-pronator then the Adrenaline GTS 11 may become your “go to” running shoe for training. The Adrenaline GTS 11 is especially a great shoe for heavier runners who demand more support than the skinny fellows.

You may not see many Adrenaline GTS 11 being worn during a marathon, but many people do train in their Adrenaline GTS 11 and then switch shoes on marathon day. The Adrenaline GTS 11 is more apt to be worn in a casual marathon or where the runner is a heavier person. You will however find many people like to wear the Adrenaline GTS 11 for half marathons, even if they are among the skinny elite.

The toe box is very room, yet not too sloppy. Regardless of what they salesman tells you at Footlocker, you probably will want a shoe with a roomy toe box. Some runners prefer a narrow and tighter toe box, but they are definitely in the minority. A roomy toe box that is sized just right without being overtly large will allow you to be safer, more comfortable, and cause your feet to sweat less. Less toe sweating and you will have fewer blisters when you are training daily for your next marathon.

If you have a narrow foot you can order the Adrenaline GTS 11 online in narrower shoe widths such as a”B” width. You can also order the Adrenaline GTS 11 online in wider sizes if you have a wider than average foot.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11 is a great shoe for many runners. It does not matter if you are new to running or if you are an experienced runner who racks up 30 or more miles each week, the Adrenaline GTS 11 will work for you if you are an over-pronator.

Style wise some people believe the Adrenaline GTS 11 is an ugly shoe, but there are others who thinks it looks great. The shoe is truly not that bad looking in my opinion, but it is much better to have an ugly shoe that is comfortable and supporting over a shoe that may look really nice but is uncomfortable and non-supporting for your running style.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11 is designed for mild over-pronators, but can also work for neutral runners and a few under-pronators who may be heavy. The best thing to do is buy a pair and walk around the house in them. If they feel right then head out and wear them for a week. Asics, Brooks, Nike, and New Balance all make some good running shoes, but the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11 has a very loyal following of runners who previously wore a different brand and model of running shoe. If you want a serious running shoe that can handle the numerous miles you run each week then consider the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11.
