Building A Home Improvement Toolbox For Homeowners

By | Feb 20, 2011 | 0 Comments | Rating: 1

Building A Home Improvement Toolbox For Homeowners, is an answer to what you may need to accomplish that to-do list you've been working on. It will make things so much easier to get everything done once you have the right tools.

Building your homeowners toolbox will be done in stages and you may actually end up with several boxes, depending on how much of the work you like to do yourself. Electrical tools are different then plumbing tools and a carpenter needs different items then a painter. Trying to cram everything into one box can be one big mess.

This is where we make several boxes for different types of work.  Mechanical tools for heating plumbing and other nuts and bolts operations. This will include any wrenches both standard and metric sizes. Many appliances are using metric nuts and bolts now. You'll need some sockets and pliers and a real good set of various sized screwdrivers. Phillips head and flathead screwdrivers are needed to be sure to have what you need on hand.

A small battery screw gun is recommended and will be needed with just about every job you do. Get something that fits comfortably in your hand and make sure it comes with a variable speed trigger.

We need a box for electrical work with wire strippers and electrical tape. Assorted wire nuts should be kept on hand. A god pair of lineman's pliers are also handy for any electrical wiring you may need to repair.

Landscaping and exterior gardening tools usually won't fit in a box and they just need a good section of the garage or basement to be stored ready for use.

Last we need a painting toolbox. This will also include the tools we need to weather proof and caulking guns. Window repair tools will also be in this box as that repair is usually done to the exterior of a house each time it's painted.

Your painting box will vary according to your preferred methods of painting and the style of house you own. Some will need brushes and some will spray their house. Different brush sizes are needed for painting the body of the house as apposed to the trim. Make your box fit not only you but your house as well.

Once you have lived in a house for a while your tools will change and you will continuously be adding tools as they are needed. Eventually the goal is to have everything you need and then we begin saving on our repairs. Every time you complete a maintenance job you just saved the cost of having someone come in and do it for you. This can add up to thousands of dollars a year, especially if you own an older home.
