If you are at a stage in your life where changes are highly essential, whether in your home, marriage, business, health, career, etc, just know that you need to build courage to effect the changes. Without courage, no change would occur. It’s as simple as that.
While you may say there is positive and negative change, I’m seeing change in a positive light. I’m seeing change as what brings beautiful roses and flowers from a flower bud. I’m seeing change as what brings a beautiful bird from an egg shell. I’m seeing change as what brings a live baby out of the pelvis of a pregnant woman. As you’ll all agree, it’s not an easy process, especially, if you been in the labor room before to witness a natural birth. It’s agonizing, energy-sapping and takes you to the depths of despair, sometimes. But, that is just what it is; a change from one state to the other. But this change (or changes, if you like) require bold people. It requires courageous people. It requires people who’ll act in the face of seeming difficulties. It requires people who’ll keep moving in spite of their fear.
No wonder Scott Turrow said "courage is not the absence of fear but the ability to carry on with dignity in spite of it."
Courage is essentially acting in the face of fear.
In one of her books, Susan Jeffers says “feel the fear but do it anyway!”

Tips to Build Up Courage
Tip No 1: When W. Nesbitt said "the key to developing the courage to change is to first accept that change is inevitable," he meant we should expect change at every stage of our lives and that instead of resenting it; we should embrace it with open arms. This way, we’re able to develop the courage needed to face the change when it comes. But, if we’re unprepared, we find ourselves jittery and fearful.
Tip No 2: There will never be a perfect time for anything you want to do. The earlier you brace up and develop courage to face what you can change in your life, the better for you. Win Borden concurs. According to him, "if you wait to do everything until you're sure it's right; you'll probably never do much of anything." So, don’t wait for a perfect time to do anything in your life. Gather as much information as you can and act in courage. I’m an entrepreneur and I know that I’m not always sure of some of the things I do. At such times, I just act in courage.
Tip No 3: Take little steps that will boost your confidence and courage. It’s just like the body muscles, the more you stretch and exercise them, the larger the capacity they develop. What stops most of us from taking little steps is fear which has been referred to as false evidence appearing real. This is because most of the things you fear won’t happen in life, they are a just a figment of your imagination. So, start taking steps that will increase your courage. According to M. Myhre"courage can come as a by-product of action. Discover other things you can do right now to not only increase your courage, but also dramatically reduce your fears."
Tip No 4: Mistakes are part of developing courage. Don’t let the fear of failure or making mistakes stop you from building yourself up. Mary Tyler Moore says "take chances, make mistakes. That's how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to fail in order to practice being brave." So, don’t reject the opportunity you have to speak to a group of 10. The experience gained and the mistakes made will help you speak better to a group of 100.
Tip No 5: No change you embark on will lead to your death. The only reason most of us refuse to build up courage to effect changes in our lives is the fear of the unknown. We're so used to the status quo that changing is a big problem for us. But, from experience, I can say no change you embark on will lead to your death. Even if you quit your day job to start your own business, just two things are bound to happen - failure or success. You'll definitely not die.
Whether you want to quit smoking, lose weight, ask a girl out, start a business or learn a new skill, you need courage. In fact, nothing great in life was ever achieved without courage and self-discipline. So, the onus lies on you to find the courage to push your dreams and effect the changes you so much desire in your life! It would no doubt come at a huge cost but it’s worth it.
