Bunk Bed Buying Checklist

Picture the scene, your house is a state, there are kid's toys everywhere, you'd like to clear them all away into your kid's room but that's in even more of a state because it's completely jammed packed. Your kids have been on at you to get them a bunk bed ever since their friends got one. You see an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone, get them what they want and save some space in their bedroom so there's more storage room for all the toys. Great, but now you have to organize getting the bunk bed and who can find the time with two wild children, a messy house and a partner who never seems to be home?!

What you need is some structure, an organized approach to finishing this task in the most efficient way possible. OK here it is, a straight forward checklist to complete that takes you from A to B and on to C. Tick off each of the "to do's" on this checklist below and you won't go far wrong.

• Find a tape measure
• Measure up all the dimensions of your kid's bedroom and write them down.
• All the dimensions, including floor to ceiling!
• Go online, or into the bunk bed store, with your measurements and find a shortlist of five bunk beds that will fit comfortably into the bedroom space
• Make sure the shortlist all fit the overall interior design of your home. White bunk beds tend to suit most homes.
• Make sure you're happy that the five contenders are all well made and safe. Are the ladders easy to use? Are the beds constructed well? What about the safety rail, is it sufficient?
• Sit down with your kids and show them the five options and get their feedback on which they like the most.
• If they try and persuade you to get one that's not on the list tell them either to be grateful they're getting one at all or explain that these are the ones that will fit!
• Check delivery costs and any guarantees, when you're happy order the bed.
• Book your partner a time slot to construct the bunk bed when it arrives!
