So, I would hope by now that everyone is aware of the need for exercise. Every single person should get some sort of physical activity every day. And ideally, everyone should get at least 30 minutes a day of cardiovascular activity, a bare minimum of 3 days per week. For me, it's not a problem. And my fiance is just as fanatic about exercising as I am (actually he's worse, but that's beside the point!). But I have a few friends who consider exercise to be a 4 letter word. They will do anything and everything to avoid working out. But, these same people can be tricked into exercising and I have done it with them a thousand times!!!! If you're one of those people who can't stomach the thought of hitting the gym or going for a walk, here are a few tips that you can do without thinking about it and without labeling it as exercise!

First, there's the age old piece of advice: park further away in the parking lot. When I was working in a big building downtown, I parked at the far end of the parking garage. First, with fewer people out there, my car was less likely to get hit or scratched. Second, I was parked and walking into the building while others were still driving in circles trying to find a spot up front. And finally, I was burning a few more calories than those folks with the rockstar parking. So, who really won that contest??

One of my favorite ways to burn calories is to play! If you have kids, get on the ground and crawl around with them. Go ride bikes, play on the playground, maybe even try out a skateboard or scooter. If you don't have kids, play with your friends. When you're hanging out at the pool, don't just lay there. Hop in and swim around; maybe even splash and play. When you're out at a party or a bar, dance to the music. Or at least walk around and socialize. Don't just sit there, focused on the food. There's nothing wrong with being that fun person in the group. Be the one full of life and energy. People are attracted to that; another perk!

Okay, this sounds simple, but every calorie counts! The next time you need something from across the room, get up and go get it! Don't just sit back and ask someone else to go get it. Or figure out a way to go without it. Actually, get up and walk across the room, up the stairs, or wherever you need to go. You'll get what you need and get on with your life a little faster, plus you'll burn a few calories. Win, win!

Another excellent calorie burner is sex. Depending on the activity level and how long it lasts, you could burn hundreds of calories! Not to mention, a healthy sex life will do wonders for your relationship. And think about this. Balancing on a table, counter, or up against the wall is way better than just being horizontal in bed. So go for it! Live it up and don't be afraid to sweat! Now of course my disclaimer is that you should only be having sex if you are an adult and it's consensual!! Otherwise, it will just make you fat!

Believe it or not, cooking can be a good calorie burner. How many calories do you burn ordering take out? Not many. But standing up and walking around the kitchen will get your blood pumping. And the more fun you have with it, the more calories you'll burn. Maybe turn some music and sway while you chop. Why not? And this is a triple whammy because you'll probably save some money by eating in, you'll burn calories while cooking, AND you'll take in fewer calories by eating the healthy food you cook!

I'm sure you had to do chores as a kid. Well, don't let those valuable lessons go to waste now! Keep up with it. And keep up with your house. Cleaning the floors, doing laundry, dusting, etc. all burn calories. And don't cut corners here. Get down and scrub. Again, you'll get more than a good workout. You'll also end up with a sparkling house! Maybe you'll love it so much that you decide to throw a dinner party or just have friends over. That leads to more socializing which will keep you more active. See what I'm doing here?

So here's the thing. You don't have to lift weights or go for a run to burn calories. Wash the dog. Wash your car. Walk to the mailbox. Walk to the store. Go visit friends. Volunteer. Go hiking. Ride bikes to dinner. The possibilities are endless!! Just do what works for you. You'll be healthier and end up having a fuller life! What more could you ask for??
