Electric Furnaces

Long before the use of electricity was made popular and the idea of using electric furnaces was out of the question, most people used wooden fires and unsophisticated furnaces as initial source of heat. These plain and unadorned furnaces once used wood as fuel but not long after, waste wood were substituted by burnt coal and other fossil fuels. However, issues concerning the environment and tight spots on energy sources compelled people to use natural gas furnaces instead. But through time, these natural gas furnaces evolved into using electricity as a source of heat, in the form of electric furnaces. This is sometimes called domestic furnaces as this type of furnace does not consume any burnable fuels that can harm the environment. These are therefore considered safe, hence the name.

What is an electric furnace?

An electric furnace is different from the older types of furnaces because it uses a different system of producing heat. It is run by electricity which generates the heat and pushes air. The central heating system in an electric furnace makes this possible. Because it is considered to be more complicated than the older types of furnaces, an electric furnace can be costly compared to the other types. However, it is cost effective considering the convenience you can get from using it.

Electricity makes it possible for electric furnaces to work as it heats the components that make up the entire furnace structure. Cold air is drawn by a fan, forcing the air into the heating components. The cold air is then heated and is released outside the furnace structure.

How Does an Electric Furnace Work?

Electric furnaces are mostly used to raise room temperature of a house or any establishment. These are usually situated in basements or the ground of a building. This type of furnace is found to be unique, economical and environment-friendly because of its heating source and process. For an electric furnace to operate, a thermostat is very important. It is a unit similar to a thermometer which is set at a particular temperature. The rise and fall of the temperature in a room is sensed by the thermostat. The house gets colder if the temperature drops below the established temperature of the thermostat.

But what makes an electric furnace perform its heating function is the heating coil. When electric current passes through this coil, it becomes extremely hot, raising the temperature of the air. The heated air is then blown into the house or building through a component in the electric furnace, which is the blower. The blower exerts pressure on the heated air and warms the air even more. The hot air released by the electric furnace then replaces the cold air inside the house making the room temperature rise into a satisfying level. The cold air however does not just disappear. Instead, they are trapped and heated by the heating coil of the electric furnace. The process restarts and more heated air is released into the house. Upon reaching the set temperature of the house, the thermostat spontaneously shuts down the electric furnace.

Advantages of using Electric Furnaces

Most of all, an electric furnace is friendly to the environment since it does not operate through the use of fossil fuels which contributes to a lot of pollution. It is best to use especially that global warming is very prevalent. It operates through the use of electric current. However, the issue on electricity consumption arises with this. But you need not be discouraged because the thermostat inside the electric furnace regulates the consumption of electricity. There are also available innovations that have developed electric furnaces that consumes minimal amount of electricity. Also, electric furnaces do not remove much moisture from the air benefiting those that live in places with colder climates having very dry air.

Purchasing electric furnaces

When purchasing an electric furnace, you need to make sure that the brand you choose is optimal for your needs. Of course, consider the amount of money you are willing to spend for the purchase. The prices usually vary according to brands and models. Also make sure that the company you would like to purchase it from has a respectable reputation. Else, it would not be a good buy. Also look for the AFUE or annual fuel utilization efficiency of the electric furnace you choose. This would determine the rating given to that particular model of electric furnace. The higher the rating, the more efficient the furnace is and the more money you will be able to save.

You can purchase a GW-JJ Coreless Medium Frequency Induction Electric Furnace at China Electric (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., for $8,500.00 to $8,7100.00 per set. Electric furnaces for laboratory purposes can be purchased at Nanyang Xinyu Electric Components Co., Ltd. for $1,000.00 to $5,000.00 per set.
