Picking out the perfect gift for someone you don't know well.
Buying a gift for someone you don’t know is a difficult task. If you have to buy someone a present, you want to make sure they will like it. However, buying a gift for someone you don’t know and making sure they will like it is near impossible. Sure, you could get them a picture frame, candles, scented soaps, or smell good lotions but that stuff is played out. No one wants that stuff anymore.
Here are five great presents that everyone is sure to enjoy.
1. Movie Tickets
Movie tickets are a great gift because you are giving them an experience and not just something for them to re-gift later. Plus, everyone likes movies because there are movies out there to suit everyone’s tastes.
2. A Potted Plant
A potted plant is a good gift for anyone. It’ll brighten up any space and add texture and comfort. Unless you know the person is an avid gardener, be sure to get an indoor plant that is easy to care for. Tie a festive bow around the pot (it is a present, after all) and be sure to include the care instructions.
3. Food Gift Basket
There’s a reason why food gift baskets are so popular and that’s simply because they are fun and people like them. It’s fun to try new foods and eat special treats any time of the year. The most important thing to remember is to make the gift basket yourself. It’s not hard and it doesn’t have to be all fancy and wrapped in cellophane. Pick out items you consider a special treat and put them in a basket. That’s it. Easy peasy! Some things to consider putting in a gift basket are specialty candies, a bottle of wine or specialty beers, nuts, fresh seasonal items (like mandarins, cherries, or holiday candy), cured meats and cheeses, homemade cookies, or chocolate covered pretzels.
If you do want to get all fancy and cute, you could use some pretty wrapping paper or tie a bow on the basket. You could even go with a theme to spruce it up and make it even more fun! For example, you could do a “movie night in” theme with specialty popcorn making kits, different candies, and chocolate covered pretzels all put in a cute popcorn bowl.
4. Stationary or Journal with Nice Ink Pens
Giving someone stationary or a journal with a few really nice ink pens is both classy and useful. Stationary can be cards and envelopes, calling cards/business cards, or notepads. There are a number of online startup companies offering fun contemporary designs for reasonable prices. You can also look at your local bookstore or gift store.
5. Credit Card Gift Card
There is one thing that can always be your fallback if you really have squat to give at the last minute and that’s a credit card gift card. These cards are super convenient and can be used anywhere credit cards are accepted. This is the ultimate, “I had no idea what to buy you” present but people might enjoy getting some free money to spend anywhere they want. In fact, who wouldn’t??
I hope this has given you some ideas and leaves you with stress free gift buying. Remember, when it comes down to it, it’s the thought that counts and just putting a little effort into a gift can mean the world to the recipient.
