Buying a Used Boat

By | 1 Comments | Rating: 1 | |

The number one question on your mind right now is if buying a used boat is better than buying a new boat. Sometimes you benefit when buying a used boat whereas other times it's more beneficial to buy a new boat. If you've considered buying a used boat then here are some things to consider before you jump into the purchase.

The best time to buy a new boat over buying a used boat is if you're really going to jump into the hobby of boating and you need something that is going to last you for a very long time. The reasoning behind that is because you'll be able to know everything that happens to that boat-a luxury you don't get when buying a used boat. Those 100 hours on a used boat could have been 100 hours in which that boat was pushed hard. With a new boat you'll always know how well the boat is treated because you'll be the only one to have driven it.

However, buying a used boat has its value, too. For example, when you buy a new boat you're going to be paying full price plus likely a little more so the sales company will earn a little profit. Within two years a new boat can lose up to half of its value. A used boat you don't have such issues. In fact, a used boat gives you the chance to make it worth more than what you paid.

If you're new to boating you may want to consider buying a used boat so you can learn how to handle it. It's just like learning a manual car, you don't want to use the brand new sports car to learn how to shift (or even drive), you're going to want to use something used and a little older that you won't feel so bad about if the learner isn't shifting correctly each time.

If you're looking for something a little less expensive, then buying a used boat just might be perfect because not only will you have to pay less for the actual boat you're likely going to also receive the docking line, life jackets, the necessary safety equipment plus other accessories for a boat. With a new boat you're going to have to pay retail price plus you'll have to buy most of the accessories to go with it. Those prices add up.

Ultimately, in the end buying a used boat or new is up to you and your specific needs. If you're just looking for something to teach you how to drive a boat you buying a used boat might be best. If you're just looking for a shiny new toy to add to your collection there's nothing wrong with buying a new boat. Take the time to consider the pros and cons of each decision.

Good points. Also, be very skeptical of buying any used boat on eBay. A lot of boat buyers have wound up getting a great deal on a train wreck. I use a premium resource called at www.BoatAuctionsDirect.com to find cheap used boats at auction.
