CHV1410 Vs CHV1510 - Which is Best?

By Edited May 15, 2015 0 0

What is the Difference?

A hand held vacuum cleaner can be essential in your home, especially if you have small children or pets. Having to bring out the regular vacuum for a small spill or accident is inconvenient, but not only that, a regular vacuum just might not be able to reach the spots that a smaller, hand held device can get to. A great hand held machine isn't going to cost you a fortune, and it will more than make up for its price with the added convenience that you get and the time that you save, so one of these devices really is a great investment.

There are plenty of hand held vacs on the market though, so you might be wondering which one is right for you, and that's where we come in. We're comparing some of the best devices on the market so that you can see which is the best value for your cash. Today we're looking at two models from Black and Decker, a great manufacturer that guarantees you're going to get a good quality and dependable product. The CHV1410 and the CHV1510 are remarkably similar, though the 1510 is a little more expensive. So what do you get for spending a few dollars more?

Your Vacuum's Performance...

There are three factors that you need to consider when looking at the performance of a hand held vacuum cleaner. The first is something called air watts. This is the amount of air that flows through the vacuum at a given time, and the larger the amount, the better suction power you get and therefore the better able a vacuum is to clean up dirt. The 1510 model has a twenty five air watt capacity, whilst the 1410 has only twenty four, so you get a little more suction on the CHV1510. The second factor that we look at is voltage, since that will determine the power of the internal motor in your hand held vacuum.

The stronger the motor is, the more power you will have, and again, the better able your vacuum will be to clean. And again, the 1510 model comes out on top with its 15.6 voltage rating as compared to the 14.4 volts on the 1410 model.

Finally, you do also want to consider the impact of capacity of a vacuum on performance. Capacity basically refers to the amount of dirt a vacuum can hold before it needs emptying. This effects performance since many hand held devices tend to lose suction power as they begin to fill up. Also, of course, it's a matter of convenience, since you'll want to empty your vacuum as little as possible. Fortunately, both of these devices have the same 20.6 ounce capacity, so you don't need to make this a factor in your purchasing decision.

The Features...

When it comes to additional features, these two models are identical. Both have a rotating nozzle that helps you reach those difficult to clean areas, and the nozzle has a wide enough mouth to accommodate even bulkier spills or accidents. A flip up brush is built-in, helping you to scrub hard to move stains, and there's also an in-built crevice tool to get into small cracks: Having the brush and crevice tool built in means that you don't have accessories that you're going to lose. The 1510 and the 1410 have washable filters and pre filter, so you're really going to get surfaces clean, and a blocked filter won't mean a trip to the repair shop, you simply remove the filter and wash it yourself. Finally, both models can be wall mounted, allowing you to store your vacuum out of the way, and yet still have it handy where you need it.

Should I Buy a CH1410 or CHV1510?

These are both great little devices, and they really are very similar machines. But, should you pay a little more to get the CHV1510 model? In our opinion, yes, it's absolutely worth it. For just a few pounds more you get higher voltage and higher air watts, meaning that you're going to see a noticeable difference in power and ability to clean. You might not need this power for every small spill, but it's good to have it for those occasions when you do need it. Go for the CHV1510 over the CHV1410, it's more than worth paying extra for.
