These recipes are favorites with all my family - young and old. I enjoy these recipes and know that you will likely add them to your repertoire.

Tried and true, these recipes will be some of your favorites, as they are mine.

Pumpkin Pie

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 can pumpkin
  • 1½ cups brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • ½ teaspoon allspice or cloves
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 can evaporated milk plus enough milk to make 2 cups

Mix together thoroughly - brown sugar, salt and spices. Stir in slightly beaten eggs. Add pumpkin and blend well. Stir in milk. Pour into 2 unbaked pie shells. Bake in hot oven (425°F) for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350°F and continue baking 35 minutes or until firm and crust is well browned.

Graham Cracker Cream Pie

Crumb crust;

  • 16 Graham crackers
  • 1 teaspoon flour
  • ½ cup softened butter
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Finely crush graham crackers, combine with remaining ingredients. Blend thoroughly and press half of mixture firmly in an even layer to bottom and sides of a well-buttered pie plate.


  • 2 cups milk (scalded)
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Scald milk in top of double boiler. Mix together sugar, cornstarch and salt. Add to milk and stir until thick and smooth. Continue cooking 10 minutes. Blend a small amount of mixture with egg yolks. Return to double boiler and cook 2 minutes longer. Cool and then add vanilla. Pour onto graham cracker crust.

Meringue topping;

  • 3 egg whites
  • 6 tablespoons sugar

Beat egg whites until stiff. Add sugar, one tablespoon at a time. Spread over filling and sprinkle with remaining graham crumbs. Bake in a slow oven (300°F) for 20 minutes.

Chocolate Layer Cake

Measure into a mixing bowl;

  • 1½ cups cake flour, sifted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 squares bitter chocolate, melted
  • ½ cup milk

Stir vigorously by hand or with a mixer (medium speed) for 2 minutes. Now stir in ¾ teaspoon of baking powder.


  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 eggs (unbeaten)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Blend for 2 minutes. Batter will be smooth and thin. Pour into two 9 inch layer pans. Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 20-25 minutes.
