Camping With a Pop-Up
A pop up camper, which is referred to by many names, is essentially a folding camper originating as a hard base "box" with canvas pull out areas which pop up and slide out with screened and vinyl covered "windows". Whether it is about acquiring a used camper or a brand new Coleman pop up camper for the great outdoors, there are several plus sides to a tent camper.
These types of campers are ultra-portable. There is no need for heavy duty towing capacity here. Regular family cars are even seen towing small pop up truck campers – this is due to the soft canvas sides. Secondarily their tow profile is obviously quite low since they tow as boxes when folded down and do not obstruct the view of the driver. Third, the cost of purchasing a pop up truck camper, particularly a used one, is quite low for a towable camper. Finally, storage is a breeze due to the compact size and weight of the tent camper. When it comes to camping itself, pop up campers give more of an "outdoorsy" feel due to the breeziness because it is in between being a tent and being a full sized RV. There is also a plethora of options available when considering a camper purchase, from sleeping four people to six people, more, full sized kitchens, or hardly a kitchen at all, and the choices continue ad infinitum depending on the purchaser's lifestyle.
There are really only a few downsides to a folding truck camper and these involve set up and tear down. It may be frustrating to watch a fifth wheel or RV pull up and level out and hook up to amenities while a folding tent camper is still being cranked out and slide outs pulled out and adjusted, but if it is not bothersome, a pop out camper is the way to go. Even buying a used pop up camper for sale can be simple and straight forward if the buyer comes armed with knowledge. Knowing what works for your camping needs and what does not is the first step and last step. If cranking up a camper in the driving rain is going to be a major issue, then there is a factor, as well as comfort of the sleeping area and space. It doesn't matter how much camp knowledge you have because if you are merely looking for a portable upgrade to a tent, a pop-up truck camper will suit your every camping need.
