Can Laser Fat-Removal Treatments Curb Your Hunger?

Sure, liposuction and other traditional surgical fat removal treatments can help you dramatically reduce your weight and reshape your body. But what happens afterwards? Surgical fat removal treatments have often been criticized for being only temporary solutions to a much bigger problem: bad dietary and exercise habits. If a patient goes right back to their old, unhealthy dieting, the benefits of liposuction and other types of surgical fat removal procedures will be for nothing.

Since the late 1980s, researchers have been working to come up with less-risky, non-invasive alternatives to liposuction and other traditional fat removal methods. Laser fat removal has been one of the most promising alternatives, and in the past few years, several laser fat removal treatment methods were officially approved for medical use by the FDA. In addition to being safer and less painful, new data suggests that laser fat removal procedures may also help patients decrease their hunger and make it easier for them to avoid over-eating.

Laser Fat Removal

There are different types liposuction lasers and equipment for laser fat removal procedures. Most work by inserting a miniscule optic fiber with a tiny laser attached. This is done via a skin incision that's small enough to not leave a scar or require any kind of extensive recovery period. The laser delivers heat energy directly into the targeted body fat cells, causing them to melt and be absorbed by the patient's lymphatic system. The fat thus gets flushed out naturally.

One much-lauded benefit of laser procedures is that they don't leave behind as much loose skin as more traditional surgical fat removal methods. The laser heat that melts the fatty cells also causes the collagen in the skin to contract, thus tightening the skin in the trageted areas so that it doesn't sag even after the fat has been removed.

How Do Laser Treatments Reduce Hunger?

New research data from leading medical laser manufacturers like Erchonia Medical shows that certain laser treatments help in the reduction of hormones that lead to over-eating. According to Erchonia president Steve Shanks, their laser fat removal procedures decrease the levels of leptin hormones in the patients' bodies. Leptin is the "hunger hormone", and reduced leptin levels can aid in controlling a patient's appetite, making it easier for them to live a healthier lifestyle and maintain the benefits they gained through the fat removal surgery.
