Rogers Wireless
Rogers Wireless is one of the three main Canadian cell phone companies in the market. This wireless telecommunications provider is owned by Rogers Communications. Rogers has over 9 million subscribers and is a leading cell phone company that often gets the latest feature phones and smartphones before any other company in Canada. Fido Solutions and Chatr are two other brands owned by Rogers, with Fido being a very popular choice among consumers. Rogers Wireless makes billions in revenue yearly and has a growing number of employees that work for this company. This brand was originally owned by Microcell but then bought out by Rogers Communications in November 2004 for approximately 1.4 billion. The company was launched on March 1, 2005 and then fully bought out by Bell Mobility in May 2009. Virgin Mobile offers customers prepaid and postpaid phones and services. The products are more specifically feature phones and smart phones that are HSPA+ devices. TELUS Mobility is one of many Canadian cell phone companies and is a division of TELUS Communications. TELUS Mobility has numerous networks currently based on the iDEN, CDMA, HSPA+ and LTE technologies. This brand is Canada’s third largest cell phone provider with millions of prepaid and postpaid subscribers, and has been in operation since 1984. TELUS has a partnership with Public Mobile where its customers are allowed to roam on the Telus CDMA network in Ontario, Quebec, parts of Nova Scotia, Alberta, Manitoba and British Columbia. TELUS has also been running Koodo Mobile since 2008. TELUS Mobility was the first mobile phone network in Canada and its Analog services were available to the general public starting from 1986. This mobile brand offers all of its services on a month to month basis. By being a subsidiary of TELUS, Koodo offers an extensive amount of coverage. This company has revamped itself and now offers Canada-wide monthly plans for its subscribers. These plans feature no long distance charges when calling another landline or mobile phone number from a Koodo phone in Canada. MTS Mobility is one of the Canadian cell phone companies on this list. MTS stands for Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. and was formerly known as Manitoba Telephone System. It is the primary telecommunications carrier in Manitoba and is the fourth largest in Canada. This corporation provides local phone services, long-distance phone services, internet service, television service and wireless services. Wind Mobile is one of many great Canadian cell phone companies. This brand is operated by Globalive Communications Corporation and was founded in 2009. This company offers its network in Toronto, Calgary, Southern Ontario, Greater Vancouver, Abbotsford British Columbia, Edmonton Alberta, and is expanding in more areas. Wind Mobile provides the HSPA network using AWS and is the first Canadian wireless service provider to use AWS. Wind’s network covers the Greater Toronto area, Hamilton Area, Kitchener, Ottawa, Waterloo, Guelph, Cambridge, London, part of the Niagara region, Gatineau Quebec, Calgary, Edmonton Alberta, Greater Vancouver area, cities in British Columbia and will continue to expand. The feature and smartphone lineup include: Huawei, LG, Samsung, Blackberry, HTC, Nokia and more. Wind has a philanthropic arm named WINDthanks which gives out $10K in grants for a charitable project.
