When going away at half-term there are not many better options than a holiday to the Canary Islands. Boasting fantastic temperatures year round and guaranteed sun for almost every day of the year, if you’re looking for some sun at half-term the Canary Islands holidays will not disappoint.

Distinct scenery

Lanzarote is an ideal spot to take a little time out to relax at this busy time of the year. Boasting 250km of coastline, Lanzarote’s shoreline is made up of spectacular cliffs which can rise up to 600m, impressive headlands called “puntas” which were formed by lava running into the sea, and breathtaking salt pans or “salinas”. This distinct scenery is so diverse and different from what we know at home it really gives the feeling of being transported far away, despite only being a few hours flight from the UK.

Beautiful beaches

Don’t be put off by the nature of the shoreline as Lanzarote is still home to many beaches, perfect for whiling away lazy days in the sun. If you’re staying in Puerto del Carmen you’ll be likely to spend a lot of your time at the main beach, Playa Grande, or if you find yourself at other popular resorts such as Costa Teguise, you’ll find everything you need at main beaches like Playa de las Cucharas. However, if you feel like exploring a little further you’ll be rewarded for your efforts. The beaches at Playas de Papagayo are protected from development and are the most natural beaches on the island. Sloping down towards the crystal clear ocean, it’s truly a sight to behold.

Wondrous water sports

Lanzarote is also an ideal place to indulge in a variety of water sports with half-term being right in the middle of the best conditions for surfing on the island. If you’re a beginner or keen surfing enthusiast you’ll be well catered for in the “European Hawaii”. Other water sports to enjoy while holidaying in Lanzarote include diving, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming and submarine safaris.

Volcanic landscapes

When holidaying in Lanzarote during half-term you may want to get out an explore the island and it’s unique volcanic landscape, with a visit to the Timafanya National Park an absolute must for all holidaymakers. The truly unique “Mars-like” setting makes visiting here an once-in-a-lifetime experience and a truly memorable feature of holidays to the Canary Islands.
