Candy Cane Crafts for Christmas

By | Dec 4, 2009 | 1 Comments | Rating: 0

There are several candy cane crafts for Christmas that you can choose to do by yourself or with a child. I would like to highlight some of my favorites. These projects are fun, inexpensive, and easy to make.

Reindeer Candy Cane

Materials you will need: one candy cane, brown pipe cleaner, hot glue, two googley eyes, red pom pom, and ribbon (optional - for a hanger)

1. Cut the pipe cleaner in half. Take one of the halves and wrap it around the curved part of the candy cane (finding the center of the pipe cleaner to do this). Twist the pipe cleaner enough to secure the antlers in place. You will want to shape the remainder of the pipe cleaner to look like antlers. You can twist the antlers around a pencil to make curly antlers.

2. Glue on the eyes and the pom pom for the nose. Make sure an adult is helping with the hot glue gum if you are making this with a child.

3. You can also tie or glue on a ribbon for a hanger and bow.

This makes a fun ornament and great, simple gifts. Reindeer crafts are really fun to create, like this one.

Other fun candy cane crafts for Christmas includes a candy cane heart. This craft is also simple, but may require some adult help with the glue gun.

Candy Cane Heart

Materials you will need: two candy canes, hot glue gun, ribbon or bells, sting and needle

1. Form a heart with the two candy canes and glue them in place.

2. Depending on how you want to decorate your candy cane, you can attach a bow or bells. You will need a hot glue gun to attach them.

3. Through the bell(s) that you have glued on, you can string some thread through the holes so that you can hang it on your tree or attach it to a gift.

Candy Cane Candle

Materials you will need: 1 small, round candle, enough candy canes to surround the candle, Elmer's glue or masking tape, red or green ribbon

1. Depending on what adhesive you are using, this step will work a little differently. If you are using tape, you will want to wrap it around with the sticky side up so the candy canes can be attached. If you are using glue (not hot glue, it will melt the candle), you will need to glue each candy cane to the candle.

2. After taping or gluing the candy canes around the candle, you will want to finish it off with a bow. I like using green ribbon because it is a nice contrast with the red and white candy canes.

I hope you have enjoyed these Christmas craft ideas. I appreciate the fact that they are attractive, cheap, and easy to make. I particularly like making the candy cane candle for gifts for fellow colleagues and neighbors. Simple gifts like this show that you were thinking about that person and you can make several without it putting a huge dent in your pocket book.
