Captains Bed Styles

By Edited May 20, 2015 0 0

A captain’s bed really mimics a platform bed in a lot of ways. It might not have a headboard on it. It's pretty low to the ground. The one big difference here is that it has storage underneath instead of just being a solid base. This makes it perfect for kids’ rooms. It can have pull out drawers. In fact depending on the size that you need it's even perfect for small apartments. If you don't have room for a dresser in your space or you just need extra clothes storage consider going with one of these design styles. It will be a little bit more expensive than a platform bed. You can really factor in the cost of buying an entire bed and dresser because you're just going to have to spend money on one piece instead of two.

The first thing that you need to consider is what you need the storage for. In fact you may be able to find a captain’s bed that has bookshelves underneath. This is going to allow you to get a lot of stylish storage space and can also be an area for decorative accessories as well.

You can also find styles that mimic drawers. In this case, it could just be a pullout trundle bed which is going to be one of the more sophisticated although more expensive design styles of trundle beds that you can go with.

It's important to pay attention to just how much storage space you're going to need. You can find pieces that also have drawers on the end of the bed. You can find pieces with stacked drawers so that you're going to get six drawers instead of three. It can really be a complete storage solution that's very compact. This is especially important when you go with a twin captain’s bed because usually this is going to be something that you use a lot of in kids rooms.

If you're going with a queen captain’s bed then you really want to make sure that you make it more subtle. You can work this in with any design style. This is one of the few instances where you should probably buy a furniture set. This is going to allow you to get pieces such as a matching armoire or nightstands. Usually when you see this piece of furniture it's going to be in a yellow finish and quite plain. However, it can even be sophisticated enough to work for a master bedroom as long as you go with deeper and darker distressed tones that have a French style of walnut finish or even a glazed piece.
