For those who don’t know yet the movie Captain America: The First Avenger, made its way to the box office over last weekend. It made an estimated amount of $65.8 million Dollars! And in doing so it knocked out the Harry Potter film ‘Deathly Hallow’ part two off the number 1 spot on the Box Office. The film’s success could be attributed to the popularity of the Marvel comic book franchise. Captain America is a beloved comic book super hero not just in America alone but the world over. So it’s not surprising to see the movie do so well on the Box Office. Another Marvel comic super hero movie that came out this year and did so well also is Thor.
One of the very interesting things about Captain America is that he is the first Avenger and one of the very first Marvel comic early and original characters. For children growing up in the seventies (mostly boys) he was their major fantasy icon. From comic books to cartoons you couldn’t get enough of him and redskull. The battles he fought with his shield are one of the most interesting any child of those days could think of and they are many like me who still think of that. Right in the time of the World War 2 his fight with the Nazi soldiers is still something of an old school cliché. In fact, Captain America has been around for a very long time now. And it’s nice to see how the director of this movie was able to bring all that to the big screen.
I can’t say how much sadness I feel at the moment knowing that this is the last super hero movie we will be watching this year. Honestly I wish it could go on. But it has been a fun and joy ride so far. With all the major Avenger movie character fully featured in their respective movie (with the exception of Ant man and Black panther) it makes sense to say the Marvel super hero movie The Avenger might do much better than expected come next year 2012. So far the movie production is going very well. As the teaser trailer from Comic-Con has shown. With the line up of cast like Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scalett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Fury and a host of others. It seems like the movie is definitely going to be a hit. The movie is expected to hit theaters in May 4, 2012. So for now let’s keep our fingers crossed.
