Carnival Cruise Destiny

By Edited Mar 2, 2016 1 0

Our destinies’ await aboard the Carnival Cruise Destiny.

Carnival Cruise Destiny

The Carnival Cruise Destiny sails from Miami, Florida—‘Cruising Capital of the World.’

At one time, the Carnival Cruise Destiny was the largest passenger ocean liner in the world. While she’s since lost her acclaimed title, she’s no less a beauty, and she’s worth your travel money and time to experience one of her voyages.

For your reference, according to the cruising line’s website, her specifications are as follows:

Total Staterooms - 1,321

Passenger capacity - 2,642

Total crew - 1,040

Officer’s nationality - Italian

Ship size - Large

Tonnage - 101,353

Ship length - 892 feet

Registry - The Bahamas

She’s the only member of her class of vessels.

Where will the Carnival Cruise Destiny take me?

The Carnival Cruise Destiny offers four and five day cruises. Specifically, the Carnival Cruise Destiny offers two different four day Western Caribbean itineraries.

For the five day cruises, the Carnival Cruise Destiny has a Western Caribbean route as well as an Eastern Caribbean one.

As with any cruising itinerary, on any cruising line, the routes and ports of call are subject to change arising from factors such as weather conditions, natural disasters, and/or political turmoil. Typically, these routes for the Carnival Cruise Destiny run throughout the year.

Below is a listing of the four different Carnival Cruise Destiny itineraries and their corresponding ports of call:

Carnival Cruise Destiny ports of call, favorite spots, and tours:

A fun and safe way to explore a new port is by purchasing one of the ship sponsored tours. There is value and security knowing what and where you’ll be visiting, and that the tour operators will have you back to the ship on time. The following are some of my favorite attractions and/or tours from each of the different ports the Carnival Cruise Destiny travels.

Carnival Cruise Destiny - Cozumel, Mexico:

Cozumel, a part of Mexico, is an island situated off the mainland coast of Yucatan, Mexico. Along with their world-renowned snorkeling, this area of Mexico is famous for it Mayan ruins. The tour entitled, ‘Mayan Ruins of Tulum,’ visits one of the ruin sites, a walled city, in Yucatan. For history and culture buffs, this is not to be missed, while on your Carnival Cruise Destiny adventure.

Carnival Cruise Destiny - Key West, Florida, USA:

“It’s 5 O’clock Somewhere” Welcome to Key West, Florida—think Jimmy Buffett music, awesome food and drink, classic literature, and fun in the sun. If you’re a book lover, the ‘Hemingway House & History Tour,’ is for you. Or, if you want a glimpse of this place where Hemingway penned ‘A Farewell to Arms,’ then select one of the general island tours.

Exploring on your own? Don’t miss:  historic ‘Old Town’ and ‘Duval Street,’ the infamous ‘Sloppy Joe’s Bar’ (a Hemingway hangout), and ‘Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville.’

“Wasted away again in Margaritaville…”—don’t forget to return to the Carnival Cruise Destiny before she sails!

Carnival Cruise Destiny - Ocho Rios, Jamaica:

Carnival Cruise Destiny Jamaica

A breathtaking, ‘must see’ in Jamaica is ‘Dunn’s River Falls.’ But you want to do more than just ‘see’ it, you want to climb this magnificent waterfall. Don’t think you can make it? There are local guides who’ll help you along the way. Several tours, offered by the Carnival Cruise Destiny, encompass a visit to the falls. Some tours combine the falls with shopping, an historical tour, and/or beach time. Choose whichever tour you like best.

Carnival Cruise Destiny - Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands:

Carnival Cruise Destiny Grand Cayman(41869)

Of all the Caribbean islands and nations, Grand Cayman is my favorite destination. Grand Cayman is the largest of the three islands that comprise the Cayman Islands. Since there isn’t a dock to accommodate big ships, you will anchor in the harbor, and take a boat, also called a tender, into George Town, the capital of the Cayman Islands. The Cayman Islands are synonymous with banking, and banking is the reason for this British territories’ impressive wealth.

Places to see in Grand Cayman include:  the legendary, ‘Seven Mile Beach’ and ‘The Turtle Farm,’ which is responsible for the propagation of green sea turtles, both for dietary consumption as well as for the environmental protection of the species. And, by the way, go to ‘H@ll!’ Yes, ‘H@ll’—a black limestone formation, where you can buy and send your friends postcards telling them they, too, should go to ‘H@ll!’

Want to visit these interesting places? Then the, ‘Best of Cayman Island Tour,’ is what you want. Your time is limited in Grand Cayman, but if you can juggle your schedule, the snorkeling and/or diving there is outstanding.

Looking for a unique souvenir to commemorate your time in Grand Cayman? Check out the ‘Tortuga Rum Company, Ltd.’ Not only can you buy rum duty free, but you can also sample their famous rum cakes.

A word of caution:  while they’re a regular cake, just remember, while you’re gorging yourself (Like you’ve had nothing to eat on the Carnival Cruise Destiny!), they’re full of rum. And I do mean FULL of rum! I…um…learned this the hard way on my first trip to Grand Cayman!

Like the rum, itself, you can purchase the different flavors of rum cake duty free, too.

Looking to bejewel the beauty in your life? Check out ‘Richard’s Black Coral Jewelry & Gallery,’ across from the ‘Hard Rock Café,’ in George Town. All of his jewelry and sculpture pieces are handmade from black coral, the rarest form of coral. Look for necklaces, bracelets, and rings. Have too much Tortuga rum, and your sweetheart could end up with all of them!

Update:  ‘Richard’s Black Coral Jewelry & Gallery’ has closed its store in Grand Cayman. However, his jewelry pieces can be purchased at ‘Diamonds International’ in Grand Cayman. Also, in Grand Cayman, check out the gallery of ‘Bernard K. Passman,’ featuring his black coral jewelry and sculptures.

Carnival Cruise Destiny - Nassau, Bahamas:

Carnival Cruise Destiny Nassau

The ‘Historical Highlights Tour’ will provide you with your best overview of Nassau, especially if you’ve never visited here before. Also, if time allows on your Carnival Cruise Destiny trip, check out the ‘Atlantis Paradise Island Resort,’ and the Straw Market, where you can haggle your way to some awesome duty free deals.

Carnival Cruise Destiny - Half Moon Cay, Bahamas:

Part of the reason why you decided to take a Carnival Cruise Destiny vacation was to relax on a white sand Caribbean beach with clear, azure water washing upon the shore. Well, your day spent at Half Moon Cay will fill your every Caribbean fantasy. If you think Half Moon Cay is lovely, then the pristine loveliness of the actual beach will blow your mind away.

Carnival Cruise Destiny - Grand Turk:

Carnival Cruise Destiny Grand Turk

If you’ve never visited Grand Turk, of the Turks and Caicos, and you’re interested in learning more, then I suggest taking, ‘The Grand Turk Experience.’ I’ve only been to Grand Turk once, so I’m still learning more and more about this gorgeous land.

Finally, make the exciting ports on the Carnival Cruise Destiny your destinies very soon.
