Carpet Rods Installation Tips

By | Oct 29, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Carpet rods used to be extremely popular in the days before the American suburb took over working class, domestic architecture. Now, most modern homes, especially in the west coast and the mid-west, are fully carpeted, so carpet rods are not really useful in them. But carpet rods are some of the best pieces of decorative hardware you can have. They are basically like jewelry for your stair case.

Now that a lot of home owners are opting for wooden floors again, the carpet rods are making a small come back. Their practical job is to hold stair runner carpets in place, to avoid accidents. But they also give you a chance to add flair and style to your home. Here are a few tips if you decide that you want to try installing carpet rods in your home.

The Right Style
Carpet rods come in most of the major architectural styles, just like any other kind of decorative hardware. Pick a style that matches the interior décor style you want for the rest of your home. Once installed, stairway carpet rods have a huge impact on the look and overall ambiance of your home. Don't pick a style that clashes with what your overall design. An ultra modern living room design might not be well served by installing Victorian carpet rods, for example.

Use Longer Screws for Full Carpet Installation
If you are installing the carpet rod brackets on top of the runner carpet, meaning the screws will have to go through the carpet, you'll want considerably longer screws. They'll need to hold down the carpet firmly, and screws that are too short will come loose easily.

Measure Before You Buy
Measure the width of your stairway and make sure that the carpet rods you get are the right size. Keep in mind that you have to account for the length of the carpet rod itself, plus the length added by whatever decorative finials you choose to cap the ends of the decorative carpet rods with. The last thing you want is to end up buying rods that are too long or too short for your stairway.

Pilot Holes
Especially if you're installing the carpet rods through the runner carpet, you'll want to drill pilot holes into the staircase before trying to install. Make sure the brackets are firmly mounted on.
