A great way to protect your car, boat, motorcycle or RV is to store them in a carport building. Sun damage can fade the paint on the vehicles. Snow or ice make the vehicles rust and decrease their value. Protect them by building a carport. Carports have become a popular investment for homeowners because not only do they protect your investment in vehicles, they also add some much needed value to your home. In a time when home values are decreasing because of the economy, the added value is that much sweeter.

Many styles are available to purchase and there are many carport ideas that you should consider. First you will need to decide the size of the carport. One car or two carport building kits are available and can be easily constructed. Usually the construction can be done in one day. A company installation crew can easily accomplish the project in just a few hours depending on how well you have prepared the building site.

Another decision is what material should be used for the carport? There are metal, wood and many other materials to choose from. Be sure to select building kits that have pre cut measured pieces. They should have explicit directions for putting up the new carport. Minimal tools are needed in the construction process. In most cases, all you will need is a good wrench, screwdriver, and hammer.

Make sure the carport is secure and bolted properly. Follow the directions in the plans and make sure there are no left over parts. This will ensure the carport will be a sturdy structure for your vehicles. Constructed properly the carport shelter will protect the vehicles for many years. A sturdy carport will also last much longer than one that is lacking stability which will also save you money on shelter maintenance in the future.

Before you begin a carport assembly, think about what type, how big a carport you need. A single free standing shelter is the most basic structure. A single vehicle can be parked under it. What roof type is desired? There are gable roofs, hip roofs and flat roofs to choose from. Will snow be a factor? A flat roof would not be a good choice if snow will be piling up on it. A steeper hip roof would be a better choice when snow is a concern. Carport buildings are a great solution in storing vehicles safely. Select the best carport for your vehicle needs.
