Carports: Not Just For Cars Anymore

By | Oct 22, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

When most people think of a carport, they think of a metal canopy with poles in someone's yard. Well, they are correct in that this is what they are made of. The carport can be used for much more around the home other than just parking a car.

A carport cannot only protect your valuable vehicle from damage by the elements, but can cover your motorcycle, boat, even your RV, if you build a big enough one. Toy storage is one main use for these when garage space is at a premium. This keeps part time use vehicles looking new and very well protected.

Have a patio and want it covered? One placed properly over some or all of your patio can shield you from the sun and extend your outdoor time especially when it is raining. This saves on money in that you can do this yourself without hiring a contractor to actually come out and put on a patio cover on for you.

Along with the standard style solid roof, there is a valance style that works perfectly for covering patios. These are slats that are spaced slightly apart letting in the cool air, blocking the direct sunlight. This lets you benefit from a breeze outside without sacrificing shade.

Many people are under the impression that a carport will detract from the overall look of a home. This could not be farther from the truth. With colors and patterns to match the existing home exterior, one can be found that will accent your home beautifully.

The aluminum ones can also be purchased in a portable version that you may take down and put up as needed. These are particularly useful for gatherings where extra shade is needed, but not in a permanent capacity. Either way, a carport can be a great investment for you and your home.
