There are many ways that you can cast a circle for your spell working. You may not know what it is that you can use. This can be frustrating, but you may find that normal household items will work just fine for what you are doing.

A good thing to try is candles for your calling of the quarters. This works well for a wide open space that will allow plenty of room without causing a fire. You could also decide to place the candles on the altar for the four elements. A separate candle may be used to represent spirit as well. There are some colors that you can use to represent the elements that you are using.

Yellow – Air

Red/ Orange – Fire

Light blue – Water

Green – Earth

Purple/ White - Spirit

Stones make a good option for those that don't want to use fire for their circle casting. These will need to be researched so that you are using the right stones for the element that you are planning on using the stone to represent.

Air – Moonstone

Fire – Amber

Water – Blue agate

Earth – Found stone

Spirit – Crystal Quartz ( This stone will also work for the other elements if you empower them to hold that element.)

Herbs can also be used for the circle if you are aware of what element they are associated with. These will also hold a circle if you decide that you want to use them. They also don't need to be burned to hold the circle open for your spell working.

Air – Dandelion, Lavender, Parsley

Fire – Allspice, Basil, Clove, Dill

Water – Avocado, Banana, Daisy

Earth – Alfalfa, Corn, Potato

Spirit – The herb that calls to you and that best matches your purpose.

Any combination of the different ideas will also work. Some people choose to use items that represent each element to them. These include fountains, dirt, incense that is burning, feathers, and other combinations. The trick is to find a combination that works well for you. If you like the way that one idea sounds, but don't have some of the items to cast your circle with, take a look around your home. Chances are that you have something that will work for what you are doing and the magic that you are trying to cast.
