Cat Collar Safety

A quick lesson in Cat Safety:

If you are a cat owner, and you prefer to keep your cat alive and well, you should know a little something about collars. You need to have a collar around your cat (especially if it is an outdoor cat), because it properly identifies the cat to strangers. Not only that, but when your cat is out playing, and it gets lost, it will be discovered and returned, hopefully.

Cats need collars that can break away, because if your cat is jumping over a chain link fence, and slips or something, you can probably say goodbye to that cat right there, unless it has a breakaway collar. If your cat has a collar that doesn't break away, it will serve as a quick hanging noose to whatever it gets stuck on. This is not fun to tell your children, because children are weak minded and death is a new concept for them to handle. Why isn't mittens home? Oh, because daddy didn't want to pay a few extra dollars to get a non lethal collar for her!

Just ask a pet store employee to point out a safe collar for your cat, because buying a new cat is more expensive than a safe collar!

Also be sure to have proper identification tags on this new collar, so that if your cat breaks the collar off, someone can return it or something.

Cats do not have the ability to pick up and carry the collar once they lose it, in fact, it probably feels pretty good to them to not wear it.
