Cat Tree Accessories and Features

By | Dec 31, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Cat trees come with a variety of features and accessories. The information here will hopefully provide assistance in deciding which cat tree features are best suited for you and your cat.

Cat Beds and Houses

The most common features are beds and houses, or condos. Beds can simply be places your cat can climb to, and once on them, can observe the goings on of the household or just sleep. Some beds are big enough for your cat to stretch out, and some have pillows or other plush material attached. Any cat tree that you can buy, even the one level cat condos, will have a nice flat surface for your kitty to lounge on.

Most cat trees will also have some sort of "house," or condo, for your kitty to hang out in. Cats love a little seclusion that is offered in a house, and it provides a great place to stage a kitty ambush.

Scratching areas

Another must have accessory is a scratching post. Cats love to stretch and sharpen their claws on sisal or a corrugated cardboard insert. Sisal wrapped around posts is a favorite. Also, a scratching post on your cat tree will save your furniture and walls and save you from purchasing a separate scratching post for your scratch-happy cat!

Toys

Hanging toys are also attached to many cat trees. Cats particularly love anything that dangles and it allows them to get some of their energy out! Toys often have fluffy balls, jingly bells, or catnip to get your cat's attention. These are purely optional, but provide a great deal of fun. A downside to hanging toys though is that they might chew right through the attachment. Therefore, you should consider using toys that hang by small metal chains.

There are many types of accessories and features available on cat trees, but it is important to keep in mind that their purpose is to provide enjoyment and relaxation for our kitty friends. Take a look at the different types of cat trees available and decide what is best for you and your cat.
