For a lot of people, the eye is one of the most important organs. It is in charge of the sense of sight, the ability to see what the world looks like. Unfortunately, there are times and circumstances that may weaken this sense or take it away altogether. One of the most common eye complications is the eye cataract. It is a condition where the lens of the eye is being partially or fully covered by a film that blocks out the light. Early on, those who have this condition suffer from blurred or cloudy sight but if unchecked, it can develop into more serious conditions like blindness. This condition does actually happen naturally through the process of aging. A lot of old people have cataracts but there are also young ones who have this due to natural abnormalities or in-born defects in the eyes.

Though cataracts are painless, they can be bothersome especially since the sense of sight is highly valuable. Some people opt to have them removed in order to see clearly again but many wonder "is cataract surgery safe?". An effective process to do this is via a procedure called laser surgery. This medical procedure is very commonly done though it can be costly for those who have no insurance. Laser surgery is not always the best option too. There are some people who are prime candidates for this surgery while there are also those who are unsuitable. In this procedure, light will be used to remove the cataract. The affected areas in the lens will be dissolved by a laser probe. To make sure that all particles will be removed, suction will be used to thoroughly remove all fragments. This procedure can be done within an hour and you don’t have to be admitted in the hospital because it is considered as an outpatient surgery.

If you have a cataract or knows someone who does, talk to an eye specialist first in order to see if it can be used as a solution. Those who have active lifestyles as well as demanding jobs can have the surgery even if the cataract is still small but those whose normal lives are not affected too much should wait until they are already in the advance stage before going for an operation. The decision when it is appropriate to take the surgery still depends on the decision of the ophthalmologist though because there are specific regulations and guides when it is appropriate to have a cataract laser surgery. Talk to the doctor and discuss your options. Anyway unlike other diseases, There is no need to hurry with the decision-making whether one should have an eye surgery or not.

Cataract laser surgery is a procedure that would require the use of anesthesia. After the operation though, be informed how to decrease discomfort as well as pain. The doctor can give you some medication in order to ease this. It is also common for those who have undergone this surgery to feel an itchiness in the eye area. Ask your doctor for some eye drops or artificial tears in order to stop this. You might also notice certain eye discharges. Just remove them using a clean damp cloth but make sure that you do not rub the eye. Just gently wipe the outside of the eye in order to minimize irritation. You should also be careful of what may come into contact with the eyes. Avoid chemicals and even water because they may be contaminated with bacteria. Lastly, a few days after the surgery, do wear tops with loose necklines. The tight ones can actually irritate the eyes when you put them on.
