Causes of Wrinkles and the Means to Fight Them

By Edited May 22, 2014 0 0

Aging of the skin and creation of aging sings is something we cannot avoid nor prevent. Wrinkles will form on our face regardless of our efforts to prevent them, however, we must be aware that creation of lines and creases can be reduced significantly and kept to minimum if we follow a healthy lifestyle and use proper skin care products. That way our skin will wrinkle as it normally does due to the aging process, but no more than that.

Most common causes for excessive occurrence of wrinkles besides aging are: exposure to sun, air pollution, smoking, lack of sleep, lack of hydration, poor nutrition and repetitive facial expressions. We should do our best to avoid these factors as much as possible if we truly want to maintain a smooth and healthy looking skin without the need to use of artificial solutions and other medical procedures.

Wrinkles will often be a result of free radicals –unstable molecules which upon entry into the body steal electrons from healthy molecules, making them unstable thus creating a chain reaction of cell destruction in the body. By avoiding consumption of processed food, milk, coffee, red meat, butter, margarine, and white sugar you greatly help to minimize the presence of free radicals in the body.

Our main priority should be to consume sufficient amount of water and to eat a lot of vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, seeds and nuts as well as cold pressed oils. All these foods are rich in antioxidants, which are the best remedy against free radicals and a great tool to fight wrinkles.

Next, protect your skin from the effects of UV rays by wearing natural sunscreen and sunglasses whenever you are exposed to sun. Even in winter and cloudy weather, sun rays have a dangerous effect on our skin if we leave it unprotected for too long. You can also use cold pressed oils as a lotion for your skin, which will help it stay moist and nourished.

You should also be aware that constant facial movements create creases that later turn into wrinkles. There is not much we can do about this since we use our facial muscles all the time, but we can do our best to stay away from making unnecessary expressions and grimacing.

Lastly, by reducing alcohol consumption and averting from smoking you make a great step in maintaining a healthy skin and preventing free radicals to enter your body. You should also make sure that you sleep enough, since lack of sleep creates dark circles and under eye bags as well as weakens your immune system, making you more exposed to formation of wrinkles and various skin ailments.
