If you are looking at getting cell phones with bad credit,
you may know how difficult this can be. Cell companies don’t like giving out
cell phone to people with poor credit. Fortunately, there are some ways you can
actually get a cell phone with bad credit history.
Now, the first thing you should do is to look online to see
what cell phones with bad credit you can find. There are online cell phone companies
that may give you a cell phone even with bad credit. It pays to snoop around
online to see what deals you can turn up.
If you want to know how to get a cell phone with bad credit, you need to spend a bit of time doing research. The more informed you are about what sort of cell phones you can get with poor credit, the higher the chances are that you can indeed find a phone that suites your taste and your credit history.
Now, one thing you should do is to apply for a mobile phone with
a cellular provider. If you have bad credit, you may still be able to qualify.
What will likely happen is that the cellular provider will require a down
payment from you. This is usually $200-$500, depending on just how bad your
credit really is. The worse your credit, the higher the deposit. Now, this may
not be ideal for some people – especially if you can’t afford to lose this
amount of money to a deposit – but the advantage is that you basically get a
regular cell phone plan and a subsidized phone.
There are some cellular providers that may offer you a cell
phone without such a deposit, but will in turn, impose additional fees and
penalties. For example, if you miss you monthly payments, you may be required
to pay double the next month.
Some cell providers offer no contracts cell plans -- essentially cell phones with plans. These are
basically where you pay at the end of the month for the minutes you use – a sort
of pay as you go cell plan. You are not locked into a cell contract and can
quit it any time. You stand a good chance at being able to get one of these
plans if you have poor credit.
If everything else fails, you can purchase a pay as you go
cell phone (also called “GO PHONE”) -- decent cell phones for people with bad credit. These are phones that you buy a prepaid
cell card with which to activate the phone with. Once you run out of minutes,
you can buy another card. These are good solutions for travelers or people who
rarely use a phone – but most people, it’s too expensive a solution.
You can get cell phones with bad credit, but it comes down to
whether you are willing to accept less than perfect conditions. You will either
pay a higher fees or penalties or be required to pay large deposits.
Some cell phone carriers offer spending caps as well. Where they limit how large of a cell phone bill you can get before they start warning you. Once you go x dollars over this amount they freeze your account until a payment is made.
Prepaid phones like the ones provided by NET10 (I use one myself) is your best option. Not only do you not have to sign a contract, but you can generally get away with spending much less per month using prepaid phones.
For instance, I can spend as little as $15 a month on my phone to keep it active. Or I can spend as much as I want to without incurring 'overage' charges. I always pay 10c a minute which is a really great rate. Most contracts work out more expensive once you add all the hidden fees and charges they put on the bill.
I have also found that the coverage provided by NET10 is equal to any of the big carriers.
T-Mobile currently offers flexpay plans that require no deposit but may still offer you a discount on equipment. Prepaid's ok, but postpaid always offers better customer service and higher quality phones.
