Cellulite Treatments

By | Sep 3, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Cellulite is a condition that appears primarily in women that describes a dimpled appearance of fat deposits on the legs and arms. The term cellulite originated in the fashion industry in the 1960s and has been with us ever since. The medical community does not consider cellulite a disease or medical condition but rather a cosmetic phenomenon. Cellulite is not directly related to being overweight or obese and it is believed that hormonal factors are the most likely cause.

Cellulite Treatment

There are currently several popular treatment options for cellulite ranging from surgical procedures to natural remedies. Here are a few of the treatments that have recently been making headlines:

1. Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is a procedure that involves injecting a blend of drugs, vitamins, and homeopathic agents into the fat cells in an effort to eliminate cellulite. The cost of treatment ranges from several hundred to several thousand dollars depending on where it is performed. Unfortunately, there are no published clinical studies that have shown Mesotherapy to be an effective treatment for cellulite.

2. Velashape

This is a trade name that refers to a medical device that uses infrared light and massage to treat fat deposits. The cost of Velashape ranges from around $400 to well over $2000. Patients have reported mixed results with some claiming that they saw good results while others felt that it was a waste of money.

3. Liposuction

Liposuction is another surgical procedure that involves actually removing fat cells from the body during the procedure. Liposuction ranges in cost from around $1500 to over $7500 depending on the body area being treated. While Liposuction has been shown to be an excellent way to remove fat, doctors have given much lower marks when it comes to reducing cellulite. In some cases, physicians have even cautioned that Liposuction may make the appearance of cellulite worse.

4. Cellulite Creams

There are a wide range of cellulite creams on the market to choose from. The majority of these products work by producing a moisturizing effect that temporarily reduces the appearance of cellulite. These kinds of topical cellulite treatments usually range in price from about $50 to $150. One product that has been making news recently is Adonia LegTone. It is the first cellulite cream to make use of plant stem cell technology and the according to the manufacturer, a recent clinical study showed that it produced a 72% reduction in the appearance of cellulite when used over a six week period. For more information about Adonia LegTone, read this article on AOL where they referred to it as a miracle cellulite cream.

Nobody wants that embarrassing cellulite and with all of these treatment options, there may be one that's right for you. Keep in mind when considering cellulite treatments that more expensive does not always mean more effective. Remember that a healthy and active lifestyle is always the best way to keep yourself looking young and healthy!
