Char Broil Gas Grill

By | Sep 15, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Char Broil is a well known and well respected name in the barbecue world, and for good reason. I have cooked on many a full sized Char Broil grill in my time, including the grill that I grew up with in my parent's back yard. For that reason alone, the brand holds a special place in my grilling heart. However, more recently, I have to admit that I have moved my allegiance over to Weber gas grills. Not due to any disappointment on the part of Char-Broil grills, but simply because when I married my wife, I inherited a beautiful, full sized Weber outdoor gas grill that put my comparatively little Char Broil grill to shame. And I'm not complaining.

However, as it turns out, I am not saying good bye to my name sake completely. As my wife and I started spending more time at our 'vacation home on the beach', (I put that in quotes because it is really just a travel trailer as opposed to a full on home. But, it serves its purpose perfectly well and it allows us to vacation within our seemingly ever shrinking budget...), we fell in love with the Char-Broil Tabletop Grill.

Not only does this little, mini outdoor gas grill allow us to fix up all kinds of food the way we like it - grilled - it also stores very neatly and compactly within our trailer while we're away. Considering we have all of our other beach toys, beach chairs, picnic tables and two kayaks to store inside as well, the fact that it is small and compact is especially beneficial to us. Plus, on a few occasions when we were invited to a cookout at a friends' place down the beach, it packed up nicely and I just carried it like a little suit case. Perfect.

The one thing that did take us a little while to figure out, and this is not the fault of THIS grill, but of grills in general, was how to keep the area where we stored it while we were away, clean. The thing is, as anyone who has done any amount of grilling can tell you, grills get nasty messy. All kinds of burnt, nasty grease in the bottom and oozing out the sides I do my best to clean it before we store it, but it's never spotless.

So what we do now is we purchased one of those giant plastic containers that seals like a big kitchen Tupperware container. This way we just place the grill inside that and know that any leaky grease will simply collect in the plastic tub. Because these tubs are made of high quality, slick, smooth plastic, they are quite easy to wipe and clean up. It makes the whole grill storage thing a much tidier process and a lot less headache for me (due to my wife always freaking out that the grease was going to spill out you know how it goes)

So in summary, I can happily report that while we now use a Weber gas grill at home, our trusty little Char Broil gas grill is our constant companion during our beach weekends.

Whether it's hiking, biking, windsurfing or even just drinking a beer outside talking about outdoor activities and gear, such as how to select the best bike rack for car or truck (of course the answer is always Thule bike racks!), my heart, mind and soul are always outdoors.
