Charity Ticket Donation Requests

Getting tickets to concerts, the circus, major sports events, dinner shows, restaurants and other events that sell tickets in exchange for entrance to the event, can be time consuming but you can get the tickets that you need donated to your charity organization. Imagine a children's charity getting hundreds of tickets to a concert for kids or even the circus so that those children can benefit from an unforgettable experience.  Occasionally, you may get someone who willingly donates tickets and other items to charity, but for the most part, the charity needs to ask for them.

How to Do Charity Ticket Requests

In many organizations that sell tickets to events, there is a charitable donation ticket requests section of their business.  It could be one person that does it in addition to his other duties, or it could be one person who does this as her primary job. It all depends on how large the company is.  In both cases, the process of charity ticket request is similar.

You usually have to be a 501(c)(3) organization submitting a request for tickets to benefit your charity then most often, you will have to provide the following:

  • Include every request on your company's letterhead
  • A detailed description of your 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  This description should include how long you have been in business, what kind of services do you offer to others, contact information, mailing address, email address, phone number to contact the person requesting the tickets and how you plan on using the tickets.
  • Include the name of the event you want the tickets for and how many tickets you are requesting.  Include whether or not you will accept less that the requested amount of donated tickets.  Many charities, especially those who work with children, have a set amount of people that the work with, so getting less than the amount requested may not be feasible for that organization because people will be left out.  In this case the exact amount  of tickets requested is ideal.

In cases where the receipt of less donated tickets cannot be prevented, then offering the tickets as a prize for an accomplishment may help to quell any hard feelings among the charity ticket recipients.

Tickets that are donated for charity usually cannot be scalped or sold to other people. So make sure your intent is honorable when you are submitting your charity ticket request. The last thing you want is for your company to be black listed from requesting requesting ticket donations in the future.
