Cheap Hotels in Edinburgh

By Edited Jul 26, 2016 0 2

Hotels to Stay at in Edinburgh

There are a number of cheap hotels in Edinburgh that you can stay at and have a great vacation without blowing all your travel money before you arrive.

The secret is to book early and try to reserve your room as far in advance as possible. Remember  that just because the rooms are cheaper than the big branded hotels that doesn't make them less comfortable. In fact, because Edinburgh is an old historic city the city centre has been established for hundreds of years with the many buildings not changing in this time. Some of the smaller run family hotels, long-established or converted from traditional townhouses, are in a better place that the big multinational hotels.

Being a historic city as well as one of the most important in Scotland, Edinburgh has long been established as a popular tourist city. The most popular attractions are the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle and the famous Edinburgh Festival that runs every year in August.

So here's my list of  cheap hotels to stay:

Edinburgh Castle(94642)

StayEdinburgh Apartments

11 Brandfield Street, Haymarket, Edinburgh EH3 8AS

The first hotel on my list isn't even a hotel: it's an apartment complex. The StayEdinburgh Apartments are situated in the very desirable west-end of the city about half a mile (0.8 kilometres) from Edinburgh Haymarket Rail Station.

This is an ideal base for tourists as, while not being directly in the busy centre of Edinburgh, it is only 15 minutes walk from the castle and Princes Street’s shops.

As this is an apartment and not a hotel room, there is a greater range of facilities on offer including  both a kitchen and separate lounge area. Included in the fully equipped kitchen area is an oven, fridge/freezer and cooking utensils. The lounge area features an LCD TV, DVD player and luxury sofas.

Further facilities include  a washing machine, dishwasher , ironing board and iron.

Prices: From  £70 per night

Facilities: As this is an apartment it comes with fully equipped kitchen with an oven, fridge/freezer and utensils. The  lounge area features an LCD TV, DVD player and luxury sofas.

The guest house is situated close to popular tourist attractions with Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street about twenty minutes walk away or the journey could be shortened by using the efficient local transport services.

One major advantage to staying at the Balmore Guest House is the inclusive breakfast served in the conservatory which is  a lovely way to start a day's holiday in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel

9 Haddington Place, Broughton, Edinburgh EH7 4AL

Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel

It might not be on everyone's wish list to stay in a Youth Hostel but if you want to give it a try I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.

This is a 5 star youth hostel so it's not only the basics on offer here. This particular hostel has it's own licensed café and restaurant.

The rooms are neat and tidy if not over luxurious and they have a shared kitchen facility.

Although no en suites are available there are private showering rooms so it's not like some hostels that have row after row of communal showers.

The have a well stocked public bar with widescreen plasma televisions and well as a bistro serving food throughout the day.
