It is prudent for you to test your Internet bandwidth speed for a variety of reasons. If you are paying for a certain speed, use the tools below to be sure you are getting the proper speed.
In my experience as a certified computer technician, I have come across Internet Speed problems. Users were paying good money for speed they were not getting. Here is a brief description of how you can avoid those and get back on track.
Things You Will Need
Computer
with Internet
Do
not hesitate to call your Internet service provider with any problems or speed
bumps you may hit. In the case where you reside far from the main office of the
Internet Service Provider, or if your telephone lines (LAN) have static
present, your Internet speed will suffer.
First, open up your Internet web browser as you normally do.
Take a
look at your modem if it is nearby, and make sure your modem is powered up
(black box with green lights on it). One green light on the modem may or may
not be flashing by the “Internet” indicator.
Run
the free Internet Speed test by clicking below: (It takes a few seconds)

Record your speed test results and compare it to the price
of the speed that you are paying for. If you are unsure what Internet
speed package you contracted for, consult your telephone or cable bill or call
your Internet Service Provider.
Plead your case with your ISP or feel free to change if the speed is not as promised or if there are overage charges for bandwidth. Good luck!
Tips & Warnings
Be
warned that DSL providers can send too much speed to your phone line, causing
speed to malfunction or slow dramatically. Be aware of this when
calling for service.
