Chemotherapy and Radiation
Chemotherapy and radiation are the common treatments that are used for cancer. Each of these treatments has its own specific method for treating cancer. Typically a doctor will order both of these treatments to give the patient the best chance of recovery.
Chemotherapy is used to attack the cancer cells that are in the body and prevent their spread away from the original source of the cancer. It generally works by keeping the cancer cell from splitting and creating more cells. There are a great many side effects that are caused from chemotherapy. The side effects can include nausea, hair loss, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and fatigue. There are other side effects that the patient might have with chemotherapy treatment.

The drugs that are used in chemotherapy often cannot distinguish between the cancer cells and the healthy cells. This is the cause of some of the side effects of the drugs.
Radiation is used to reduce the size of the cancer tumor that is in the body. When it is used in combination with chemotherapy it is a very effective treatment for cancer. While chemotherapy will effectively kill the cancer cells, radiation will work to reduce the size of the cancer at the original source site.
The side effects of radiation therapy can be skin irritation. It is important that the patient use the creams and lotions that are recommended by the doctor. There are some creams and lotions that could cause the condition to be worsened.
Doctors will develop a treatment plan that includes both chemotherapy and radiation to aggressively attack the cancer and rid the body of it as quickly and thoroughly as possible. While the treatment can be very taxing on the body and cause many side effects, it is necessary to follow all of the doctor's instructions to eliminate the cancer that is in the body and reduce the chance of it coming back after it has been eradicated.
