Chi Flat Iron

By | Jan 3, 2011 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Pros

Well-constructed for a lower cost flat iron, seems very durable.

Swivel Cord (a bonus, since my old one did not have a swivel cord. Hey, this might be important!)

Pretty Ergonomic and user-friendly, but everybody's hands are different so this chi flat iron might not be for you.

Drag-free heat plates and it seemed to tolerate a few tangles even.

Cons

I could not find any serious flaws in the product. Compared to cheap store brands, the Chi Flat Iron was only slightly more expensive and performed extremely well.

Could use better heat controls, but I bought one of the the low end model to save a little money (and still impressed). You can review more Chi Flat Iron models and see what fits better for you.

Full Review

Some time ago, I purchased the Farouk Chi Flat Iron, mainly out of necessity. My previous flat iron broke down (as they all must, at some point), and after about 4 years at that, I decided it would be a great time to explore the alternatives instead of buying another cheap flat iron.

And after about 2 or 3 weeks with my Chi, I have to admit, I couldn't be happier! I know it is impossible to advise for every single situation, and everybody's hair is different, but my hair is somewhat thicker and can be slightly difficult to work with a straightener, and after my old straightener broke down (one of the plates stopped heating), the Chi Flat Iron seemed to be a great fit for my budget, and my needs!

Let's face it: if you have thick hair like me, you know more than anybody that straightening your hair can be a pain! Add in the frizz and the tangles and you have a big, curly, kinky mess. So that being said, the chi flat iron was simple to use, and I found it did a great job. I always use heat protectant product in my hair though, and this can really, really help bring out the shine (move the flat iron quickly though because you can still burn your hair by mistake). The chi flat iron seemed to heat up very quickly and the flat iron plates seemed to glide over my hair really easily.

First things first: if you do decide to get a new chi flat iron, you will be surprised at how quickly it heats up. Seriously. On the lower end models, however, there is not as much fine-tuned control on the heat levels, but there are digital chi flat iron models that help with finer heat adjustments. The speed that the chi flat iron heats up might surprise you at first. And as always, when you are dealing with hot flat irons or hot curling irons; please, please be careful and do not burn yourself.

Also, for those that are new to using straight irons to flatten your hair, they tend to be used almost like a comb, unlike a curling iron that wraps your hair around a barrel, these are used in 1 smooth, flowing straight line to smooth out the hair. Usually, this also helps provide a sleek, shiny look that really helps our hair sort of "glow". I always end up feeling like I just stepped out of a salon and it looks GREAT!

Finally, as for the chi flat iron itself, I have to highly recommend it. Whether it is just a new flat iron for you, or a gift for your girlfriend, or even if you've never owned a flat iron before and are just curious. I am very happy using it and like how straight and smooth my hair looks.

In Closing

It can be very easy to go way overboard when purchasing certain products, especially for hair care. The chi flat iron seemed to be an excellent balance for my budget and continues to do a fantastic job straightening out my hair, without making me feel like I'm going broke just buying a flat iron. You can read more about the chi flat iron before making your decision, but ultimately I feel as if it is a beneficial addition to your hair arsenal (unless your hair is already straight, then why are you reading all the way down here)!
