Chicken fritter and Onion fritter (pakora)

Fritter is a common household evening snack in every Indian household during rainy and winter seasons. The recipe is simple and is very easy to make and guarantees good taste for those who love spicy food.  Fritters are of two types - a) Sweet fritter (apple fritter, banana fritter) and, or b) salty and spicy fritters (chicken fritter, onion fritter). Given below are the recipes of two spicy fritters.

 Chicken Fritter


  • Chicken 1 lbs
  • Oil for deep-frying
  • Salt/ rock salt as per taste
  • Onion 1 medium size
  • chickpeas powder 1 cup
  • Flour 1 cup
  • Chili as per taste
  • Red pepper powder as per taste
  • Ginger garlic paste 2 tsp
  • Yogurt 2 tsp
  • Arrowroot powder 1 tsp
  • Carom seeds 1 tsp
  • Egg 3
  • Chilli paste 1 tsp (optional)
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Baking soda 1/ 4 tsp
  • Dry mango powder 1 tsp


  • Clean and drain the chicken pieces.
  • Cut in small pieces.
  • Make a paste of the onion.
  • Heat oil in pan for deep-frying.
  • Pour chicken pieces in a bowl and add all the ingredients.
  • Mix all the ingredients, do not add water.
  • If you want, you can add more eggs.
  • Add the batter into the boiling oil.
  • Fry till golden brown.
  • Serve hot with sauce or chutney.

Onion Fritter


  • Oil for deep-frying
  • Onions medium size, sliced in small pieces
  • Salt as per taste
  • Chili as per taste
  • Red pepper powder as per taste
  • chickpeas powder  1 to 1 1/ 2 cup
  • Dry mango powder 1/ 4 tsp
  • Tomato sauce (optional) 1 tsp
  • Water as required


  • Heat oil in pan.
  • Mix all the ingredients together.
  • Form a thick batter and pour teaspoons in the oil.
  • fry till the batter is golden brown in color.
  • Garnish with cilantro.
  • Serve with sauce and chutney.


  1. You can also make fritters of various vegetables like egg-plant  or potatoes with the same ingredients and cooking process .
  2. In the chicken fritter recipe, you can substitute chicken with boiled eggs, prawn or beef.
  3. You can use boneless chicken for chicken fritters.
  4. I sometimes add half a teaspoon of curry powder in onion fritters. you can try it too.
