It is barbeque season, and who doesn't just love chicken wings? If you have the time to do some of the prep ahead of time, then this is great. Here is a great recipe for chili wings.

Things You Will Need

For this chili wing recipe you need about 35 chicken wings.

What you need:

You need to make up a batch of spice. You can change this around to your taste but the basic spice recipe is as follows:

1-1/2 tablespoons of chili powder

1 - tablespoon of packed brown sugar

1 - teaspoon of paprika

1 - teaspoon of garlic powder

1-1/2 teaspoons of cumin

salt and pepper

Step 1

Mix these spices together, in a small bowl. Then rub these spices all over the chicken wings. Put in a container and cover and let sit for an hour, or overnight in the fridge, if you can to absorb the seasonings. The longer the better (but make sure to put them in the fridge in a covered container)

Make sure and wash all surfaces that handled the raw wings well after your preparations, with soap and water, including your hands

Step 2

1-1/2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

1/4 cup finely chopped onion (use a processor if you can)

2 cloves of garlic minced

3/4 cup of ketchup

2 tablespoons of molasses

2 teaspoons of chili powder

1 tsp (or to taste) hot pepper sauce

1 tablespoon of vinegar

prepare the sauce

In a small pot, heat up the vegetable oil, and fry the minced onion and garlic until soft. Then stir in ketchup, molasses, vinegar, chili powder, hot pepper sauce. Keep over low hit, simmering until bubbling.

Let this sauce cool in the pan with a lid on.

Step 3

Now get your barbeque going, and clean and grease the grill, and on medium heat. Place your wings on the grill for about 10 minutes, turning. Then take your brush and brush on the sauce, and as you turn brush more sauce on. Cook until crispy approximately 20 minutes. Just make sure the chicken inside is cooked. Get rid of any left over sauce, especially if you were dipping the brush into it, as it will have had raw chicken on it.

If you love wings, and love this recipe, then you are probably going to want to keep those dry ingredients (spices) on hand for the next batch!

This recipe could also be used for barbeque chicken breasts or legs. Just rub on the spices, and leave in the fridge, and then get that grill going and make up a batch of the chili barbeque sauce to brush on.

Now enjoy these chili wings
