Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe

This is truly one of the greats, the physical manifestation of ‘going to your happy place’, and always a sight for sore, hungry eyes. 

There is valuable nutrition in chocolate chip banana bread. Chocolate improves mood, supplies the body with antioxidants, and enhances blood flow. Bananas both nourish and regulate the body. They are great sources of vitamin B6, potassium, and fiber.

Vitamin B6 is important for healthy function of the nervous system, immune, and cardiovascular systems. The water-soluble vitamin is also found in fish, poultry, and beef.

Fiber is important for digestive health and it sustains fullness for an extended amount of time, which prevents overeating.

Potassium is an electrolyte and a mineral that contributes to multiple aspects of human health throughout the body. 

Ingredients:

  • 2.5 cups of flour**
  • 1.25 cups of sugar
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips*
  • 2 eggs*
  • 2 tablespoons of milk*
  • 2-3 mashed bananas
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda**

* Vegan Substitutes:

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe
  • 4 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed and 3 tablespoons of water or add another mashed banana
  • Vegan chocolate chips or a vegan friendly chocolate bar divided into chunks

** Gluten Free:

  • Substitute with oat, almond, or rice flour.
  • Include another teaspoon of baking soda or apple cider vinegar for leavening.

Directions:

Heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

In a bowl, mix together the butter and sugar. After they are thoroughly blended, add the eggs and milk, both one-by-one, making sure to get the sides. Now add the bananas and vanilla extract.

In another bowl mix the flour, salt, and baking soda together.

Now combine everything until smooth.

Pour a thin amount of batter into a non-stick pan. This is to give a solid base to your chocolate chip banana bread, free of chocolate chips, as to avoid them getting burnt and maintaining the base of the bread.

Now mix the chocolate chips into the batter, then continue pouring the batter into the pan.

Take a small handful of chocolate chips and sprinkle them over the top of the bread.

Place in the oven.

Cook between 35-45 minutes.

Note:

For the vegan substitution, if you do not wish to use flaxseed or if it is unavailable, bananas fill the role. Bananas serve as an egg substitute in breads. Flaxseed does, however, adds extra complex nutrition to the chocolate chip banana bread.
