Health and wellness are serious concerns today as never before. The market is inundated with all kinds of products to help people attain their weight and health goals. Protein bars are among the many products people have available. There are many brands and flavors to choose from. How can you know which ones are the best protein bars? That all depends on the reason you will buy and eat them.

Some people choose to eat protein bars for convenience. It's a fast paced life and we don't always have time to plan and prepare healthy snacks or even meals. So keeping a protein bar in the car or in your purse can handle emergency times when you are hungry and on the run. If you are just trying to have a healthy snack for times like that, your choice for the best protein bar will be easy. You can buy whatever tastes good. There are some good ones out there as well as some that are not so good.

If you have a serious goal that you want to accomplish with the help of protein bars, such as weight loss or bodybuilding, you will need to do a little work to find the protein bars that will be the best for you. Just because a bar is labeled as a protein bar does not mean it is healthy. Some are high in carbohydrates and can contain up to 50 percent fat. This can be in the form of hydrogenated fats or palm oil. If you are going to use protein bars as a substitute for a daily meal or as a healthy snack, you should spend an hour or so with a notebook and do some label comparisons.

Look at the kind of protein that is used. Whey protein is best for weight loss. It can help increase metabolism and energy. A good protein bar should have 25 or more grams of protein and no more than 25 grams of carbs. They should also have no more than 280 calories and 3 to 5 grams of fiber.

The other kind of protein commonly used is soy protein. There seems to be some consensus that this is the best protein for bodybuilding. Both whey and soy protein is alaso availble in many different brands of high protein powder.

Other ingredients besides protein are wheat germ, oatmeal, dried fruit, and chocolate. Some bars are made with organic ingredients. When you find protein bars that meet the above criteria, you need to buy one bar and try it for taste. Once you find the bars you like, you can save money by ordering on the web.
