Choosing Retirement Gifts for Teachers
Our children spend much of each day with teachers who take care of them for those hours when we are not there. They teach them more than just what is in the books from which they read and they give so much of themselves. Choosing retirement gifts for teachers can be rewarding but may not be easy.
Retirement should be a happy time in one's life in which they should be looking forward to sitting back and relaxing after many years of work. For this reason you should go with something that will be memorable yet not something they would normally see as work related. Choosing desk caddies and briefcases as gifts for retirement may well be considered as not much more than clutter for someone who is retiring.
If you know the teacher who is retiring well then a more personal gift would be appreciated. Once you have spent a lot of time with someone then you can better guess at the types of things they would like most. A bottle of their favorite wine or a gardening set may be in order depending on the person's choice of leisure activities.
If you are not sure what the person would prefer then you can usually never go wrong with something like a personalized coffee mug or photo frame, maybe one with her students photos included. Or you might consider retirement gift ideas such as personalized luggage tags or a share in a stock. It is always more the thought behind the gift than the actual size of the gift you give.
If you can afford to spend more or maybe go in with a group to buy the gift then you might consider something a bit larger. Things like luggage sets or spa day trips or even a nice night on the town with tickets to a special event would make lovely retirement gifts for teachers. The personalized crystal plaques that can be found in some shops make magnificent gifts that would be treasured for many years to come.
If the teacher who is retiring is teaching your child then you might consider letting them help to choose the gift. This gives your child a chance to show their appreciation for their beloved teacher. It also gives your child a chance to feel they are part of the event and feel good about any changes in their life.
Gifts that come from the heart are always best. These are the ones that are treasured for many years and looked back on with fond memories. No matter what you choose let the teachers in your life know you appreciate their years of dedication and hard work.
