Choosing a Travel Pillow: Your Best Travel Companion

By | Dec 9, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Traveling takes you away from the comforts of home, away from the things that you hold near and dear. When you travel on a trip that would take you hours, take along a travel pillow and sheets.

Seasoned travelers swear by the difference that it makes on making your trip far more comfortable than if you travel without them. You feel well-rested after that long trip if you take with you the right travel pillow and sheets.

When you are traveling by plane, there is no guarantee that you will be provided with travel pillows as some planes only carry a limited number of travel pillows. If at all they do, there is no guarantee that they will be of good quality that will ensure you are comfortable as you take a nap. When the trip requires you to check in at a hotel, there is a very high risk of bed bugs and dust mites plus the insecurity of sleeping in pillows and sheets that have been possibly exposed to a lot of other people already, even if they are newly washed. That is why it is important to bring your own set of travel pillows and sheets.

The main consideration though is that pillows and sheets take up space in your luggage that has airline restrictions on size and weight. The beauty of the new types of pillows is that they do not take up as much space as traditional travel pillows so they are easier to take along with your luggage. Despite this though, flexibility and the right neck support are not sacrificed. They are considered as orthopedic pillows, designed to rest your neck and support the right alignment of neck and spine. The most popular travel pillows are inflatable and buckwheat pillows.

Inflatable pillows, when not filled, can be folded up and does not take up space in your luggage. When you are ready to use them, just 10 to 12 puffs of air can blow them up to the firmness that you want. When you want to store them, just release the air and fold. Buckwheat pillows have been gaining recognition as one of the best travel pillows. Buckwheat pillows conform well to your neck and back so there is no strain exerted on them.

To help you choose the right travel pillow, ask yourself the following questions:

Is it firm but comfortable? When your travel involves a lot of sitting, a good pillow is one that has the right firmness for proper neck support. Does the pillow fit your neck? The right neck pillow should fit your neck enough to let it breathe without choking you. The contour design is important to help you achieve the proper position even when you are just sitting. Is it easily washable? Look for a pillow that has a pillow cover that is easy to wash.

Does it have positive feedbacks? Consumer reviews or feedbacks from past users play a big part in helping assess quality. Find a pillow that has many positive feedback and recommendations.

Whether you are experienced or amateur, every traveler should remember to bring a comfortable travel pillow and you will have a more comfortable sleep. Learn more great tips at The Republic of Life!
