Choosing the Perfect Cubic Zirconia Ring

By | Aug 12, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

For whatever reason, people apply a whole different standard when selecting a diamond ring compared to when they are choosing a less expensive piece of jewelry, such as a cubic zirconia ring. Those who go shopping for diamonds will inspect every last facet of the gem, marking down notes on the clarity and color of the stone and how brilliant the gem is. The same principles apply to cubic zirconia jewelry as well. If you want to ensure that the ring that you're getting is one of high quality, make sure to follow these general guidelines.

A Smooth and Even Color (Or Lack Thereof)

Cubic zirconia rings depend upon a colorless gemstone in order to achieve their potential beauty. While diamonds can get away with having a tiny tint of yellow to the stone, this is unacceptable in something like cubic zirconia, which uses natural stones less often. The only time that color is acceptable is if you're specifically looking at a cubic zirconia gemstone which has been given a hue. For colored CZ rings, check that the color is evenly distributed. If there's some kind of color gradient, the ring is definitely not up to par.

Check For Inclusions

Inclusions are bits of dirt or grime that got stuck inside the gemstone itself. This is somewhat unavoidable, but definitely not something that you have to take for granted as a given. Hold the cubic zirconia ring up to a light source to see if there's any visible inclusions. If the inclusions can't be seen without some kind of jeweler's lens or microscope, the gemstone checks out as being good enough.

A Well Cut Gem

The size of the cubic zirconia gemstone doesn't matter as much as how well it's cut. These gems have amazing potential to brilliantly shine in the light provided that they were cut by a professional jeweler. If you feel that the ring doesn't have the fire and brilliance that you desire, this is likely because the gem wasn't cut that well.

Choose a Quality Band

Don't neglect the quality of the precious metal band when picking out the ring. It's not all about the gemstone, after all. Taking your time to pick a fitting setting for your cubic zirconia ring can make all the difference in whether you love or hate the final product. Your primary choices will be white gold, yellow gold, or silver. If you choose silver, make sure that it's a 92.5% pure sterling silver alloy. For any of the gold alloys, don't settle for anything less than 14k purity. A 10k ring doesn't last as long and is somewhat cheap, in the bad sense of the word.

Patience is a Virtue

Finding the perfect cubic zirconia ring may come down to how much patience you have. There are literally thousands of cubic zirconia rings available in stores today, so it's very likely that the one that's best for your tastes is out there, simply waiting for you. If you have the resolution to never settle for anything less than perfection, you'll certainly find what you're looking for in the long run.
