Hockey is a one of a kind sport. Clearly one of the best sports invented by man, hockey represents a well-spirited type of game. The sport may be a bit dramatic at times, but it also holds true to the idea of teamwork and sportsmanship.
A person who wants to learn more about the sport of hockey always begin with buying their own hockey stick. Hockey sticks, in general, are not that difficult to find but it may take you some time to find the perfect one for you. When purchasing your very first hockey stick, it is always best to have a distinct idea of how they are made and which type of hockey stick would compliment your style of playing.
Always remember that hockey sticks are the important elements in making you score the goal in the game of hockey. With that big of a deal, it is critical that you find the right hockey stick with the precise material for you to use.
Graphite and fiberglass are the usual materials used for ice hockey sticks. If you are playing field hockey, on the other hand, you would need a stick that is made of durable wood like hickory or mulberry.
Hockey sticks made of wood are always known to have the cheapest prices in stores. Although these hockey sticks may be affordable for anyone, this may also weaken through time and can readily break. Some people still believe that wood sticks can still be flexible or sturdy for first use. Just the same, if you would prefer to have quality hockey sticks, go for those that are made of graphite instead of those that are made of wood.
The blade and the shaft are the two main parts of hockey sticks. The blade represents the end of the stick that is used in swaying the puck both in the field and on ice. It is usually measured at about twelve inches long and two to three inches wide. As the longer part of the stick, the shaft is being used to gain support while playing. It is commonly constructed with a protective knob right at the end of the hockey stick. The gear ensures comfort as you play.
As you go in hockey sticks stores, do not hesitate to hold each piece and to test them for their flexibility and comfort. It is important that your hockey stick is easy to maneuver and will not express any sort of difficulty for you while moving. Recommendable for first time users are hockey sticks a shaft and blade that are detachable. If you end up with an expensive stick, getting a protective hockey bag for it is a good idea as well.

Make sure you choose an Ice Hockey stick that suites your skills and style of play. There isn't any reason to spend $300 or more on a high end composite hockey stick if you can't take advantage of it. Also make sure the hockey shaft is the right length and flex so it works to your advantage.
