Choosing the Right Wedding Cake

Did you know that the average cost of a wedding cake is $543? Although not everyone does it, a lot of bakeries charge by the slice, anywhere from two dollars to ten dollars per slice. Bakers tend to charge more depending on the decorations and the work being put into the cake. If the bakers create a wedding cake with lots of icing, filling and custom decorations, it could cost you up to ten dollars or even more.

Believe it or not, decorations always make a big difference in the price per slice cost. Many people don't like to use them, but fresh flowers are one of the easiest ways to decorate a cake, and they don't cost much at all. Some people like to go way over the top when creating their wedding cakes, while others like to just keep it real simple.

We know that wedding planning is stressful and can cost you a lot, so when possible, try to find discounts on the items you need most. Not all bakers offer discounts on the wedding cakes and services, but it always pays to look. To help reduce the cake cutting and delivery fees, check to see if you can get you wedding cake catered to you. Little things like that will make a different when saving money during event.

When you are shopping for a wedding cake make sure that the person or persons you are buying it from has good references. Ask to see if the have a portfolio of their previous creations, and don't be afraid to ask questions if you are concerned or aren't sure about something. Asking questions on the spot will help to reduce confusion, mistakes and misunderstandings between you and your baker.

It is very important that you start planning your wedding cake well ahead of time because they take a while to make, and most chefs will only do a certain number of cakes per week. It takes a lot of time and hard work to get the cakes done, especially if you want to add special and unique decorations. If you don't' give the chef enough time they could charge you extra for making them have to rush through it.

Cake tasting is something that you need to do before too late, to insure that everything is perfect and you can make changes if needed. Get a few friends and family to go with you when you do and see if the cake is right for you, get their ideas and opinions. You want to give yourself plenty of time so that you get exactly what you want and don't have to feel rushed. Some people like to add dried fruit and nuts to their wedding cakes, and some don't.

Be sure to check and see if all the ingredients in the cake are what all of your guests can and eat, and that nobody is allergic to any of it. Have the people that are coming let you know ahead of time so that you can work your way around it, and see what you can do to make it good for both you and them. Even though it's your day, you want it to be pleasant for others too.
