Christmas LED Lights: Have You Got Yours Yet?

By Edited Nov 22, 2015 0 1

Christmas LED lights are becoming more and more popular with each passing year due to a number of reasons. They have progressed a lot in terms of technology and are now available in a myriad of shapes, colors and styles. They are a great long term investment, and even though they are slightly more expensive than their incandescent counterparts they still work out cheaper in the long run. Plus, they are much cheaper to run and are friendlier to the environment. What more could one expect from a simple string of Christmas LED lights?

Christmas LED lights only used to be available in a single color, white. However, once diodes were better understood it was discovered that they could generate a whole spectrum of colors by simply changing the frequency of the electricity passing through them. This means that your Christmas LED lights are actually giving off that color light, and do not rely on colored glass or other systems to give them color.

They are also now available in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and are also used to illuminate other ornaments. The advantage is that since they do not heat up there are no risks involved in having them close to plastic objects, or inside them in this case, which was one of the reasons that incandescent lights could not be used for such applications.

Christmas LED lights have come down in price significantly in the past few years, being relatively on par with incandescent lights. Even so, if they were still much higher priced they would still make an excellent investment as you will recoup your money quickly because they are so durable and long lasting. Tests have shown that LED lights have a life span of over 20,000 hours of continuous lighting with some even hitting the 50,000 mark. This means these lights will be with you for a lot of Christmases. Instead of having to replace your lights every year, you will be able to take advantage of the durability of Christmas LED lights and even leave them to your grandchildren. Unless, of course, by then we will be using holographic Christmas trees with drag and drop decorations.

Another great thing about Christmas LED lights is the fact that your electric bill will be cut in half compared to previous years, as LEDs only require about 30% of the power that incandescent bulbs do and they also burn much brighter. You are getting a much better bang for your buck per watt of power with these little wonderful bulbs. Not only do they run cheaper, are more durable and more intense, but they also are more eco-friendly. The longer their life span the less Christmas LED lights that need to be produced, the less production the more we protect our environment by reducing pollution. Their low rate of electric consumption also helps as this reduces the need for power plants to work excessively, which means burning less fuel. This all helps to reduce the carbon footprint on the environment.

Now, if these are not enough to convince you that you should already be in the store buying your Christmas LED lights, then how about the fact that you can get novelty versions with strings of Christmas LED lights shaped like beer mugs, wine bottles with glasses and even farm animals. There are so many options that you can go whichever direction you choose from incredibly fancy and elegant, to highly quirky and humorous.
