Christmas Shopping for Your Boss
At the end of the year when Christmas comes along you have a great opportunity to show your boss some appreciation for everything he/she did in order to keep your company afloat. While you may not be "buddies" with your boss you likely still appreciate the efforts he/she put forth. In an attempt to show your gratitude you may want to do some Christmas shopping for your boss. This is a great way to give back to your boss.
Unfortunately giving a huge gift isn't viable when Christmas shopping for your boss. There are a couple reasons for that statement: first, you have Christmas shopping to do for your family, and second, Christmas shopping for your boss may be seen as a means of "seeking favoritism" by co-workers. You have two options to get around either scenario.
Your first option when Christmas shopping for your boss is to buy a smaller cheaper gift of about five or ten dollars. This won't break your wallet nor will it appear you're trying to woo the boss into giving you that raise or promotion. This is also a generous way to show your boss that you're thinking of him/her during this holiday season.
Your second option is to convince your co-workers to go in on a larger gift together. Have everyone donate five or ten dollars and then do your Christmas shopping for your boss with the money gathered. This way everyone has the chance to participate, no one will feel you're trying to gain favoritism and you still get the chance to show your boss your appreciation.
Now, there are a few tips you should know when Christmas shopping for your boss with everyone's money. First you're going to want to be sure you set a budget. Once you know how much you have to spend you need to keep within that budget. It's rude to ask people for more money after having an initial amount set. If you have cash left over you can either split up what's left or put it on a gift card for a restaurant.
When you're actually doing the Christmas shopping for your boss you're going to need to find something that is practical yet unique.
Perhaps you don't know your boss as well as you'd like to. If you find yourself in this situation then you should consider getting tips from everyone before doing Christmas shopping for your boss. This is actually a good idea in any case because it will show you want everyone's opinion in the gift, making them actually feel part of the process.
Christmas shopping for your boss can either become a group effort or you can find something small that still shows your appreciation. The fact of the matter is that Christmas shopping for your boss is supposed to be about your boss; about what he/she will enjoy and about what he/she will appreciate.
