Google this month made the Information Technology community surprise because Google suddenly tested the CR-48 laptop sample which used the preinstalled Chrome operating system.

Despite of many hardware disadvantages, users suggest that this is not a reasonable solution if they consider it in the operating system aspect (at least in the current period). In the idea aspect, Chrome OS is really attractive because Google has proposed the low-cost laptop model with the fast and stable connection and unlimited bandwidth, information usage. Moreover, the applications from the general cloud network help users avoid malicious software.

In fact, the Linux netbook has failed in this direction. Chrome operating system certainly has been still quite possible because several simple reasons are mentioned below. Meanwhile, Google itself has a much more complete operating system. This operating system is Android.

Chrome OS is an operating system based on Google's Linux for netbooks and other mobile devices. It is designed to operate the Web applications which are based on the open source Chromium operating system platform. Chrome operating system itself is not distributed in download - install style as many different versions. The operating system will be preinstalled only on the devices that Google's partners produce. However, since first introduction from 2009, Chrome OS continuously delayed later 2010 and earlier 2011. According to the latest information, Chrome OS will be delayed to the second half of 2011.

Wireless network is not really reliable

It does not mean that there is any problem in the coverage. 3G and Wi-Fi currently are quite common - especially in the big cities. If you stand at the user position, you will understand that whenever the Internet connection is also available. Many buildings block Access Point by the password while the Internet on the plane remains a distant concept to most users. Meanwhile, one inconvenient service is still available for users. For example, most luxury hotels still charge fee while customers use the Wifi or several Internet cafes often have the slow connection. The problems in wireless network may not affect your browsing or checking email. However, these problems will become more and more serious when many applications run on the Internet connection with unstable broadband.

Meanwhile, 3G connectivity which is expected to bring Internet to anywhere by the community still not be comprehensive. It will not be stable if you use this network on smartphone or tablet PC. Sometimes it will disappear as long as you step out of a metal door or stand under the dome. This can cause the bad consequences such as losing of data or crashing the systems. It is really dangerous with some operating system such as Chrome Web. Chrome devices themselves are also designed with the inside memory, but Google does not want its customers to use it. Consequently Google considers it as the temporary solution. They still want to enhance the machine's connecting ability.

Limit bandwidth - big barrier

The idea of cloud applications is not bad but it is not suitable with the model which provides the current network. In the U.S, the Chrome OS users will be sponsored freely about 100MB/month from Verizon Wireless. If you simply use the application without any data compression solutions such as Opera or Blackberry, you will use up about 100MB - 250MB each day. This is understandable because an MP3 file counts to 5 MB – 7MB and the images counts for average of 100KB - 200KB per image.

The WiFi connection will be obviously released by limited bandwidth but it is not always available. Meanwhile the endless package from 3G or 4G network services may not be popular suddenly. Those who are brave enough to use Chrome OS will often have to search the Internet access point, the promotional packages from the 3G network. It will be an obstacle for users to be worried about the network stability. Meanwhile, customers who use Android can always download the third browsers such as Opera Tuesday, Skyfire… These applications allow the data compression to reduce the bandwidth usage. This is an innovation of Android in comparison with Chrome OS.

Web application – not actually effective

The web technology can be great for some specific applications, but most of them currently quite bad (especially with the games). With Chrome OS, users can only play the simple Flash game. This is similar to the beginning period of smartphones.

The developers will need the better software development tools than the available tools if you want to design the games which are actually attractive.

Meanwhile, Android currently has NDK package which is specialized for game programmer. Chrome OS has the feature which is accompanied with the web. The Chrome OS phones will lose the "worst" smartphone when it is being considered in the perspective of entertainment in general and game in particular.

Android is not only the brothers from the same producer but also the Chrome OS's big obstacle. Android is currently optimized for the smartphones but Android commits to support the big-size devices such as tablet pc or netbook when Honeycomb – the new version is released. The current version has the application and interface which are not suitable with the high-resolution screen and physical keyboard. These descriptions make users inconvenient when they use Android phones. They are quite useless when being compared to the current products which use Windows or Mac OS X.

Even when Honeycomb is launched, Android is able to be the enemy of these two strong rivals. It is obvious that if we compare Android with the Chrome OS, Android is still better. About the web aspect, while Chrome has only the website, Android owns web site and ... more. Google have not defined what they want when at the same time they release two operating systems, said Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO. However, Google explained that Android and Chrome OS are designed for the two entirely different platforms.

Chrome – is still an application

Chrome is only basically a browser. It is not designed as a complete operating system. Android itself can run the Chrome browser. If Google really wants to make this "operating system" to be a web portal in the world for computer users, setting up the Android device will be the more reasonable solution.

While Android is quite strong by the "open" application from the Android Market, Chrome itself has no feature which cannot run any "offline" application at all. The Chrome has only web site. Chrome browser can be strong enough to compete with Firefox or Internet Explorer, but if it is considered as the platform for the operating system, this idea is too early to implement.

In general, in the long-term perspective, Chrome OS would be the ideal solution to computer systems and low-cost mobile devices. It is especially useful when the wireless Internet connections become really more stable and comprehensive. However, this will hardly happen - at least for the next few years. The market currently still belongs to Android, iOS, the big brother Windows, Mac OS X and other Linux variations.
