By Edited Jun 2, 2014 0 0

Looking Into The Status Of Churches

There are a lot of churches all over the world nowadays. Different forms of religion have  already emerged through time and one of the best things to think about is that, have people already grown acceptance of the importance of faith and belief in their lives? The best basis for you to be able to know whether people have already grown religious is the church membership growth ratio. This will show if through the years, based on statistics, there are more people who have joined certain churches as compared to the other years. You would not believe but this is actually monitored by different religious groups so that if they notice that there seems to be a great decline in the church membership growth ratio, they will be able to take necessary actions so that they can somehow increase that rate and increase the followers and believers of certain churches.

What Statistics Shows

The National Council of Churches in the United States is said to be the one responsible for monitoring such ratios and other details about the different churches that is exist within a country, in this case, in the United States. Statistics show that within two years, the church membership growth ratio in the Catholic Church has increased and is considered to be the largest church body in the said country. On the other hand, it has also been noted that there is a noticeable decline in the said ratio for the Protestant church. This statistics show that the Catholic religion continues to be the most influential religion because it is very effective in being able to increase its members. These results of the ratio can somehow serve as  a wake up call for the Protestant church for them to be able to find more effective ways in being able to increase their members as time goes by just like what the Catholic church was able to achieve.

Catholic Church On Top Of The List

In the previous years, both the Catholics and Protestants actually have declines when it comes to their church membership growth ratio but just recently, the Catholic church seemed to prove their action and they were able to increase their ratio already while the Protestant church remains to have certain decrease in rate still. As what the exact ratio says, the Catholic church was able to achieve a 1.5 percent growth rate to their total members of about 68 million or so.

If you will try to check the population difference between the Protestant and the Catholic church, you will be able to see that there is definitely a great difference between the two. The Catholic church, as what have been already stated has about 68 million members as compared to the 16.2 million members of m Protestants particularly the Southern Baptists landing on the number two spot in the list of churches with the most number of members throughout the world. The Protestants have a noticeable reduction of 0.2 percent in their church membership growth ratio.

The Top Ten Largest Churches And Their Church Membership Growth Ratios

When it comes to the list of the ten largest churches, it is shown that there are actually different variations when it comes to their church membership growth ratio. As what have been stated the Catholic church is considered to the largest group with about 68 million members with a church membership growth ratio of 1.5 percent. Next in line is the Southern Baptist Convention as a part of Protestant church. They are known to have 16 million members with a decline in growth ratio of about 0.24 percent. The third on the list is the United Methodist Church with their almost 8 million members in the United States. They also have decline in the church membership growth ratio of about 1 percent. Next would be The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with their almost 6 million members in the United States. Like the Catholic church, they also have a noticeable increase in their growth ratio of about 1.7 percent. The fifth in the list is The Church of God in Christ with about 5.5 million members and apparently no change when it comes to their growth ratio. Next would be the National Baptist Convention United States of America Incorporated with 5 million  and also, apparently no change when it comes to their church membership growth ratio. The seventh in the list would be the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America with about 4.6 million members. Unfortunately, they have about 1.62 percent decrease when it comes to their growth ratio. After this , there would be the National Baptist Convention of America Incorporated having about 3.5 million members. They have no change when it comes to their growth ratio. Second to the last on the list would be the Assemblies of God with about 2.9 million members. They have about 1.27 percent increase in their church membership growth ratio. Lastly, there is the Presbyterian Church in United States with about 2.8 million members. They have a decrease in growth ratio of about 3.3 percent.

As you can see, there are truly a lot of variations when it comes to the church membership ratio of the different churches on the list. There are many factors that can affect the growth ratio and if they would just be able to properly deal with the said factors, they would all achieve the same rate of increase that the Catholic church was able to have. They simply have to strengthen their efforts more when it comes to recruiting people to join their church. Effective measures must be taken for every church to be able to spread their word. If the churches will not act properly and take immediate action about declining church membership growth rates, they will end up reducing their members as compared to those churches who are continuously increasing their growth ratios through time. It is never too difficult to spread one’s belief as long as each member of the church will cooperate very well in order for them to be able to achieve their desired church membership growth ratio.
