Chutney is one of the very famous Indian sauce recipes. There are many different variations of these chutneys. These chutneys can be made from vegetables, fruits, or lentils etc. You can find many different tastes, aromas, colors, or look of the chutney everywhere in India or even in foreign restaurants. If you might have visited some Indian restaurants, then you might have come across these delicious and varieties of chutneys. When it comes to taste, there are many flavorful chutneys that one can try. Here are some of the chutneys' recipes that you will find, such as sweet red chutney and green spicy chutney.

Sweet Red Chutney

Serves: 4Red Pepper

3 tablespoon of Oil
1 teaspoon of Whole Cumin
1 teaspoon of Cinnamon Powder
1 1/2 teaspoon of Ginger Paste
2 1/2 cup of Canned Roasted Red Pepper's Paste
2 -3 Red Dried Chilies' Paste
1/2 cup of Brown Sugar
1 tablespoon of Lemon Juice
Salt to Taste
  • Soak the red dried chilies for about 3 hours, before making chutney. If you don't have soaked red dried chilies, then you can use this option. Soak the red dried chilies in bowl of boiling water. Let it get soaked for about 15 minutes.
  • Now, take the seeds out from the red dried chilies and grind it until it gets the texture of paste.
  • Open the can of roasted red peppers and drain all the excess water from the can.
  • Put the roasted red peppers in a strainer, so that it gets little dry.
  • Crush all the roasted red pepper in a grinder until it gets smooth like paste.
  • Put a pan on the stove and add the oil as mentioned earlier.
  • Add the dry ingredients like whole cumin and cinnamon powder.
  • Add the ginger paste, red dried chilies paste and mix it well.
  • Put the paste of roasted red pepper and mix with other pastes.
  • Add the brown sugar, lemon juice, and salt as per your taste.
  • Mix and let it sauté all the ingredients for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Let it cool at room temperature first and then you can put it in refrigerator.
  • Garnish with red dried chilies on side to add more colors when serving.
Spicy Green Chutney
Serves: 4

3 cup of Freshly Chopped CilantroCilantro (30206)
1/2 cup of Fresh or canned Green Chilies Paste
2 Cloves of Garlic
2 teaspoon of Ginger's Paste
1 teaspoon of Clove's Powder
1 teaspoon of Black Pepper's Powder
1 teaspoon of Whole Cumin
1 1/2 teaspoon of Sugar
1 1/2 tablespoon of Lemon Juice
1/3 cup of Water
Salt to Taste
  • Wash the fresh cilantro and chopped it. Get a grinder and add this chopped cilantro in it and grind it until it gets crushed.
  • Open the lid of grinder and add freshly chopped or paste of canned green chili peppers. Give it one more grind and let it mix with cilantro.
  • Now, it's time to add all the paste that we have, if you don't have the paste add the garlic cloves and small pieces of ginger. Otherwise, directly add the paste of garlic and ginger in to the mixture.
  • Add all the dry ingredients that we have, such as clove's powder, black pepper's powder, whole cumin, sugar, and salt as per taste.
  • Add the lemon juice and the water.
  • Grind all the ingredients all together until it gets the texture of sauce.
  • Keep it in refrigerator before serving.
  • Garnish with leaves of cilantro and green chilies on top.
One can serve these chutneys with any kind of meals, such as with curries, fritters, can apply as sauce on the bread or tortillas, or with varieties of chips as a dip. You ca also preserve these chutneys for long time in refrigerator. The serving of these chutneys can vary too, so that the serving size mentioned above can be either more for you. But, the good thing is that if you keep it in refrigerator, you can always go back and enjoy the tasty chutneys at your home.
