Classy Wooden or Faux Wood Blinds
Many people like the look that wooden blinds gives to their home. Wooden blinds are just one of those timeless classics that do not seem to go out of style. But a question that often arises when considering wood blinds is, "Should I get real wood blinds, or faux or imitation wooden blinds?" Both types have their advantages and their disadvantages.
It goes without saying that the real thing is more expensive. It costs more actually produce the wood blinds, to chop and treat the wood and then fashion it into blinds, than it does for a company to make faux wood blinds. So, depending on your budget, that may be a factor. Another factor to keep in mind when considering what type of blinds would best suit is what the weather is like in the area you live. One more consideration is regarding where you will be putting the blinds up.
Humidity is a killer for real wooden blinds as it has a tendency to warp the wood. So if you want to hang your blinds on a kitchen or bathroom window where they will be exposed to a bit of steam or water, or if you live in an area that gets a lot of humid weather, you will most likely want to go with the imitation or faux wooden blinds. It is just not worth it to spend a lot of money for the real wooden blinds only to have warp in a short period of time.
One advantage of the real wooden blinds, however, is that believe it or not, they are actually lighter than the faux or imitation blinds. So if you are planning on covering a big window with them, you may find it a lot easier for you to buy the real thing as they are easier to pull up and down. The faux or imitation blinds, being a bit heavier, are a little more unwieldy.
In either case, no matter which choice you finally make, it is generally hard to tell the difference between the two at first glance. If you go with faux or imitation wooden blinds, they will still give your room the same classy look that you are hoping to achieve by buying wooden blinds. There is a large variety of wooden blinds on the market, and an equally large number of faux wood blinds so you really should not have any problem finding the perfect wood blinds for your home.
